Most residents worked on one or more plantations throughout their lives although some may have also played minor roles in local commerce or government service. Many families still reside in league city today despite moving away during times such as World War II; many are descendants of early settlers who remain locally engaged in industry or politics even into our current era

League City was founded in 1887 by a group of businessmen as the League City Railroad Depot. The depot was moved to its present location on Ulysses S. Grant Boulevard in League City in 1909. The railroad was merged into Amtrak in 1971 and ceased operations in 1998.
