It changed its name to "Lancaster" on October 15, 1887 after the death of its first postmaster, Elisha Galloway. At that time it had 1 outpost and served a population of 112 people; today it has 4 outposts and serves a population of over 300 people. The present courthouse (built 1907) is also county seat for Tarrant County and seats 10 judges who hear civil cases and handle criminal prosecutions including Traffic Division prosecutions which are handled by District Attorney'soffice across county line assignments which now fall within Jurisdiction Of Harris County Constable Services Incorporated where crimes are investigated by their assigned detective/operations officer/investigator assigned thereto who also investigates all types property thefts reported within this jurisdictional area In order to accommodate stagecoach travelers coming through Lancaster late into frontier days there were two hotels built: The First Hotel (1896), later renamed Lackland Hotel (1900), then finally re-named Convention Hall (1907). One advantage this new transportation system had over wagons or horseback riding was that passengers travelling from Dallas could disembark at Lancaster before continuing their journey westward on stagecoaches instead going all the way back eastbound around Addison Creek ride which took about seven hours round trip! Hugh McCulloch ran this business until his death in 1906 when it passed down through his son Garnett McCulloch to his grandson Garnett III who operated it until 2006 when it closed due to financial difficulties having experienced increasing competition from automobiles traveling faster than buses operating along I-10

By 1865, Lancaster had a population of 1,500 people. In 1870, the infamous East Texas Railroad was built through Lancaster and it quickly became a transportation hub for goods travelling between East Texas and Houston. The railroad also spurred development in nearby Humble and other rural communities. In 1931, Lancaster was incorporated as a city with a population of 507 people. The city experienced significant growth during World War II when the war produced large quantities of materials needed for military production. After the war, Lancaster experienced Decline until the late 1990s when economic revitalization occurred that led to new businesses opening in the cityscape.
