Lancaster is a town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. In 1910, an election resulted in the installation of Barney Newcombe as mayor after he won with nearly 60% of the vote against incumbent John Witherspoon's 38%. In 1916, World War I caused some economic problems for Lancastrian businesses which led to new development along Loop 202 north of downtown that continues today as part of Stadium Village development project by Trinity University/Texas A&M University - one of several universities associated with Stadium Village. On July 29th 1915 an act providing for incorporation of Tarrant County passed by the Texas Legislature; on August 2nd 1915 Lamberton (later renamed Anacostia) became incorporated into Tarrant County also becoming part of Township 4 Northampton within Township 5 Southworth . On December 15th 1916 Anacostia becameyname change from Lamberton to Pennsboro due to petition from School Board member Mrs . Hoke . Because portions are located outside township boundaries6 Pennsboro has since been abandoned without any trace remaining
