In 1845, John Sargent located what is now Wichita Falls on his Rancho San Antonio de la Loma east of Lancaster. By 1851, Wichita Falls had a post office and two stores; it was renamed Lancaster after Sargent's rancho (now part of University Park). At that time there were no schools in Lancaster and most residents attended school via wagon or horseback ride from Wichita Falls. In 1868, George Aikens established Trinity College in nearby Vernon because no other institution would provide education for black students then residing within Texas' boundaries north of Dallas/Fort Worth at that time. From its inception until 1963 it operated as a private college with only white students admitted; African American students eventually achieved full academic parity with their white classmates through Lone Star State universities beginning in 1965 when public funding for these institutions began operations statewide

One of the most notable landmarks in Lancaster is Terminal Tower which overlooks busy downtown streets below. The tower served as both an administrative center for the city until recently (when city hall moved into a new building) and also served as a popular tourist attraction due to its views of downtown Midland County from every window inside!
Lancaster, Texas was founded on November 12, 1836 by Captain William Lancaster and his wife Eliza. The town was named for General James Lancaster who died in the Mexican-American War. Lancaster served as a brigadier general in the Union army and later became a cattle rancher. The Lancasters were among the first settlers in what is now Lancaster County. They built the first cotton gin in the county and also developed a post office and educational system. The town grew rapidly after multiple pioneers arrived to help develop it. By 1860, the population of the town had reached 2,000 people. However, during the American Civil War, Lancaster was Battle Ground III because of its strategic location between Galveston Bayou and Houston Bayou on two key Confederate supply lines. By 1865, most of Lancaster had been destroyed by fire or with battle damage as part of Sherman's Texas Campaigns against Confederate forces
