Lakeway is a small town in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name "Lakeway" comes from the Spanish word for "lake." The first settler in what would become Lakeway was John Lubbock in 1867. By 1896, the land had been bought by Colonel James Fenton and his wife Elizabeth Key Fenton who named it after their father-in-law, General Sam Houston. In 1907, Lubbock's son-in-law Harry Hinton donated $5,000 to help build a school and post office in what would become Lakeway. In 1912 civic leaders decided to change the name of the town to honor Sam Houston because of his role as its founder and first mayor. The new name became official on July 16 that year when a resolution was passed unanimously by the town board establishing Sam Houston Park which sits across from where the current Lakeway Elementary School stands today. Sam Houston Boulevard runs through much of this small town now home to 1,868 people with many businesses located along both sides of Highway 87/Sam Houston Boulevard such as HDB Insurance Company, JBL Radio and Home Depot (now Lowe's). One interesting fact about Lakeway is that it has never been hit by a tornado or tornado warning! This may be due to its close proximity to Fort Worth and lack of other major Tornado Alley threats like those found in Oklahoma City or Wichita Falls TX

Forbes as a ranch town on the banks of the Trinity River near present-day Lakeway Elementary School and Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. In 1907, Lakeway incorporated as a city under the name of Richardsonville. In 1912, Richardsonville changed its name to Lakeway after nearby Houston became an official U.S. city and merged with Richardson County In 1915, Lakeway become an independent municipality when it seceded from Richardsonville and annexed the towns of La Grange and Carthage. The annexation caused some controversy because Carthage had been part ofRichardsonville for many years before that and most people in Carthage felt their community had been left out during the secession process. On November 15, 2015, residents of Carthage voted to rejoin Lakeway as a separate municipality through ballot proposition #2 It is interesting to note that while Carthage technically belonged to Lakeway until 1915 (it was annexed within two years after incorporation), it still retains some vestige of its earlier autonomy which can be seen in local government laws and even signage throughout the town today
Houston became a city on July 2, 1836, when the Republic of Texas was founded. By 1845, Houston had become the largest city in Texas. The city's growth continued until annexation by Mexico in 1846 and its incorporation as Galveston County on February 14, 1850. The first courthouse was built in Houston in 1857 and courtrooms were located throughout the city until 1893. On November 15, 1907, Houston established itself as an international port through the creation of the Texas Port Commission. In 1915 it annexed Sam Houston State Park to its boundaries making it one of only two remaining non-city municipalities within Harris County. The population ofHouston grew from 1 million people in 1890 to 3 million by 1920 and 5 million by 1930; however World War II led to a dramatic decrease in population due to military service and travel restrictions placed on the city after Pearl Harbor
