As work on the dam stopped after World War II, development of Lakeway stalled as well until 1970 when an addition to the Dam (the North Main Drive Bridge) allowed for shopping, dining and other amenities within easy reach of residents. A new elementary school opened in 1978 which has been rebuilt several times since then and remains one of the most modern schools in Williamson County Lakeway is located at (27.811333,-98.568419). According to the United States Census Bureau, it has a total area of 2 square miles (6 km²), all land. As of 2010 census data*, there were 3,591 people residing in Lakeway: 1,062 households; 801 families; 2% under 18 years old; 6% from 18 to 24 years old; 15% from 25 to 44 years old; 50% over 44 years old *The 2010 census did not list race or ethnicity

In 1907, Lakeway erected its first schoolhouse and began serving students from nearby Humble Township. In 1924, the city of Lakeway annexed neighboring Humble Township; this made Lakeway an official city with its own government and police force. In 1938, Lakeway voters passed a resolution endorsing annexation by Arlington County; Arlington County incorporation occurred two years later. In 1951, President Harry S Truman ordered all United States military forces out of South Korea; as a result, many businesses in Lakeway closed down or moved away because their employees were relocated to South Korea. However, business resumed relatively quickly after American troops returned to Seoul in 1954. The economy has since suffered due to various factors such as oil exploration spurring competition for resources within South Korea and lower commodity prices across global markets; however, efforts are being made to revive the local economy through marketing initiatives such as encouraging increased tourism throughout the area .
