Lakeway is a small town located in Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,531 at the 2010 census. The community of Lakeway was founded in 1892 by John A. Robertson and his family. The first home of the Robertson family was built on what is now the east side of Main Street. In 1904, Robertson donated land to form a park which would later be known as Lakeway Park. Lakeway has been place where businesses have existed since before there were towns in Medina County. In 1907, Jaffrey & Sons Hardware opened its doors in what is now the business district that includes much of downtown Lakeway. It remains one of the most popular shopping destinations in town today with an impressive selection of items including hardware, appliances, gasoline and other supplies. In 1915, Tom Laughlin established himself as a grocery store proprietor in what is now downtown Lakeway after opening his first store near San Antonio on Manor Road. Laughlin expanded into groceries and general merchandise soon thereafter and continues to operate this business today as one of Medina County's largest grocers with more than 350 employees nationally based out of its three stores alone). During World War II, local women volunteered for military duty and raised money for war-time needs through sales throughout their businesses; these sales helped support local families during difficult times (eager consumers could buy goods they couldn't find at home). In 1956, Jack White opened his last gas station on US Highway 281 just south of downtown (later moved to its current location) – White's was one of Medina County's earliest " convenience stores" open 24/7/365 providing customers with everything from snacks to cigarettes and ice cream! The popularity of convenience stores across America has helped contribute to the growth and renaissanceof Michigan Avenue eastside corridor over recent years resulting in several high-end restaurants being relocated or renovated within blocks OF HWY 281 / I-10 motorways! In response to increasing truck traffic along I-10 / HWY 281 / US Highway 287 approaching town limits residents began erecting fence lines around their properties durring early 2007 development called "The Shantytown". This project added approximately 25 acres (11 hectares) back onto residential properties adjacent to HWY 281 between FM 19606 & FM 19663 while also adding numerous commercial buildings totaling 137 units including 14 bars/restaurants/shops - many operated by resident citizens themselves! To date this development has created more than 50 jobsites directly or indirectly associated with it - creating opportunities for both locals AND visitors who enjoy our quiet streetside communities!

Lakeway, Texas was founded on November 7, 1835 by Robert E. Lee and his wife Elizabeth Porter. The town was named for General James A. Lake, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as a U.S. Representative from Texas. The town's first post office was established in 1836 and its first store opened in 1840. By 1850, the population of Lakeway had reached 1,500 people and it became a thriving agricultural community with over 50 businesses operating at the time. In 1861, Confederate forces moved into central Texas and began to battle against Union forces under General Ulysses S. Grant. On December 12th of that year, Union troops fired upon a group of civilians gathered to celebrate Christmas at the local church; nine people were killed and thirteen injured as a result. The village quickly lost its strategic importance after the fall of Petersburg Heights to Union forces two weeks later In 1865, Lakeway was burned by Confederates during an uprising against Union rule in Central Texas called the Battle of Gaines Mill The post office closed its doors for good in 1918 but continued to be used occasionally until 1951 when it finally disappeared altogether Lakeway is now considered part of Johnson County and has experienced some modest growth since its heyday as an agricultural center however much remains unchanged from those early days including their traditional values such as hard work ethic and intolerance towards any sort of liberalism or socialism .
