Lakeway is a town in San Marcos County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Lakeway was founded in 1881 by settlers from Illinois and named after Lake Washington in Seattle. The first post office in Lakeway was established on February 17, 1881. The present town was platted in 1886 when the railroad arrived through San Marcos County. The name of the town honor General James Hogg (1788-1854), who fought against Mexico during the Mexican War and also served as commander of U.S.-Mexico forces at Bexar Heights. In 1906, a dam across Clear Creekdammed up all water available to the town for irrigation purposes and caused great concern among residents; they petitioned Congress to create a lake across Clear Creek to provide fresh water for the community without contributing financially to the new dam project. A battle ensued between residents and developers over access to what had been once an agricultural oasis – now known as one of Austin’s most expensive housing areas In 1927, voters passed an ordinance establishing a zoning law that prohibited multiple dwellings within one block of each other on either side of Euclid Street; this law still applies today In 1933, Voters approved adding .5 acres (2 hectares) of land adjacent to US 281 east of I-35 just south of Loop 410 for commercial use only – this land forms today’s former downtown portion of Lakeway In December 2009, it was announced that Southwestern Bell would be closing its doors forever after 108 years in business . This left many people without communication service or jobs within their communities which has made life difficult for many families On January 2nd 2010 local officials held a press conference announcing that preparations were underway for auctioning off property surrounding Southwestern Bell building including portions of downtown where citizens have protested unsuccessfully against having their homes destroyed

The following year, it seceded from the United States and formed its own government. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Texan forces fought against Confederate forces. On November 14th of that year, Texan General Sam Houston surrendered at San Jacinto Station.
