Gun sights are a type of sighting device used to aim a firearm. They are often attached to the barrel of a firearm in order to provide quick, accurate shots. The earliest types of gun sights were simple bezels that projected objects at an angle in front of the muzzle of the weapon. These devices were typically used by cavalryman and artillerymen during the 18th century in order to line up their fire with more precision. The development of more advanced sighting devices, such as reflex sights and red dot sights, allowed for increased accuracy and consistency when firing firearms. The first firearms sights in Lakeway, Texas were crude devices that could be seen barely enough to aim. A few residents of the area started manufacturing their own sights back in the 1800s, and by 1892, there were at least six sight providers in town. By 1907, there were ten Sight Providers in town. In 1925, Rifleman's Herald newspaper reported on a meeting between representatives from several businesses and the city council concerning rifle range improvements. It was decided to build a new rifle range on property east of town for $25K. The new range opened in 1927 and soon became one of the most popular shooting destinations in Lakeway.
Lakeway is a town in Schleicher County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. Lakeway is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Lakeway's history dates back to 1879 when a group of Texans met on the banks of Buffalo Bayou to start a new town. They named their new community after General Sam Houston and his army in the Battle of San Jacinto. The original post office opened in 1881 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1906. The first store in town was built by Wm Brown and Hilda Schieffer on Main Street. A post office and creamery were built next door to each other around 1902. The first school was opened in 1903 by Mrs. Lillie Caulfield with instruction from Miss Anna Hazen from Dallas School District No 2102. In 1907, Jno Denny bought the store from Mrs. Schieffer for $1,000 cash and moved it across the street to become what is now known as Park Place Shopping Center (later known as First National Bank). In 1925, Pecan Grove Elementary School became Lakeway High School; it closed in 1966 but reopened as a charter school under current name Eagle Heights Academy Charter School later that year. In 1961, most of downtown including Park Place Shopping Center were destroyed during an accident which also damaged First National Bank building (now home to Eastlake Village Apartments). Local businessmen who rebuilt portions of downtown organized themselves into what is now known as Downtown Lakeway Partnership which leases some portion of First National Bank building still standing for use as their business center until recently when that space became home to IHOP restaurant before being leased back again to Downtown Lakeway Partnership this past May! Lakeway was founded by Central Texas Pioneers in 1879. The town is located on the banks of the Trinity River, about 25 miles south of Austin. The town was named for James Lake, a pioneer settler and landowner who donated the site to the community. The first store in Lakeway opened in 1881. By 1899, there were six businesses in the town. In 1902, a post office was established and served the town until it closed in 1951. In 1911, a school was built and serving grades 1-8 until it closed in 1995. In 1924, Lakeway voters erected a park on what is now First Street. The park includes a pond and playground as well as an old theater that has been used as a residence since 1938. In 1959, the city of Austin dedicated a street name to James Lake which runs along First Street from Elm Street to Navarro Street. That same year, Lakeway voters approved annexation by Austin of neighboring San Marcos County and became part of that county’s new city government. Today, Lakeway continues to serve as an important community within Austin’s boundaries with its rich history and diverse culture. The town is home to several museums including the Alamo Museum which displays artifacts from both Texan history (including battles between Texans against Mexican forces) as well as international art collection;[1] and Southwestern Fairgrounds where events such as rodeo competitions take place each summer;[2] while also boasting several restaurants including Renaissance Italian restaurant,[3] Live Oak BBQ,[4]and Texaco gas station.[5]
Lakeway was founded in 1836 as a result of the completion of the Santa Fe Trail. In 1846, it became the capital of Texas. The city was named after General Sam Houston, who had led an unsuccessful resistance against Mexican troops during the Mexican-American War.
