Lakeway is a town in Potter County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now Lakeway was made by pioneers in 1836 when they erected a cabin on the eastern bank of the Trinity River. A post office named Lakeway was established in 1837, and served until it was discontinued in 1865. In 1861, General George Buell sent his army through Potter County to march on Austin and establish a new route for the Union war effort. General Buell's forces passed through Lakeway on their way to battle at Palo Alto. In 1871, John Pemberton founded Pemberton Land & Buildings Company to develop land along the Trinity River east of present day Lakeway. The company built mills and other outbuildings including two hotels which remain extant today: The White House Hotel and Palace Theatre Building (now known as certificates of occupancy). In 1880–81, Buffalo Bill Cody visited this area during his Western World tourist circuit and performed several shows at White Sands Apache Indian Reservation before setting off for Fort Worth on October 14thennial year with his horse ranch North Park Place Racetrack located just north of downtown Fort Worth. After Cody's visit some people decided to move into what would become Lakeside Village while others continued development around current day Elmendorf Road/Old US Highway 290 E corner with FM 927 south side; later streets were added such as Cedar Lane (now Dish Rd.), Highland Dr., Holly Dr., Oak Cliff Dr., Cottonwood Ave., Grapevine Rd.. By 1907 there were over 100 residents living within 600 feet of one another with about $1 million worth of property consisting of homes, stores, schools etc.; businesses included 3 undertakers, 1 hotelier and 10 bricklayers/carpenter/paintmakers among others local riverboat captains ran an average daily passenger load from Forts Worth ($5) - Temple (now Arlington Heights), New Orleans ($10), Galveston ($15) - Corpus Christi($25). By 1912 most residents had moved away or left for more central locations due to competition from oil exploration industry arrivals such as Shell Oil Co., Texaco Incorporated ($) ($) ($) (); eventually this rural area became developed into Garland County (). Today there are more than 50 towns throughout Greater Dallas tracting 514 square miles ().

Lakeway was founded by Anglo-Saxon settlers in 1872. The town was named for the river that ran through it, the Lake of the Winds. It grew quickly as a dry farming community, and by 1905 had a population of over 100 people. In 1912, the town became an incorporated municipality. In 1934, it merged with neighboring Unincorporated Jasper County to form Lakeway-Unincorporated Jasper County Municipality. In 1938, Lakeway-Unincorporated Jasper County Municipality merged with Hockley County to form Hockley-Lakeway Municipal Corporation. On July 1, 1959, all municipalities within Hockley-Lakeway Municipal Corporation were merged into Lakeway Consolidated Government. On October 15, 1999, the City of Lakeway annexed the unincorporated communities of Unkenning and Whitesville to become its own municipality. The history of Lakeside is intertwined with that of its namesake river: both have been critical in shaping the community’sarelative landscape and economic development over time. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Texas arrived on horseback in 1872 while exploring what would become Dallas County looking for new land to explore after concluding their survey map of North Texas (including present day Dallas). When they found no suitable sites they turned back and rode westward until they reached what is now known as Cedar Creek where they stopped for dinner at Cedar Springs Ranch before continuing their journey northward next morning on foot which would lead them down White Oak Creek into present day Dallas (the same creek that forms part of today’s Loop 610 Freeway). From Cedar Creek these pioneers mustered up some men and following a hot summer day ride from Cedar Springs Ranch down White Oak Creek finally reached Bexar River where they erected a wooden bridge across which travelers could go wherever they pleased before continuing their journey home or trading goods with Native Americans along the way who already lived near waterways like this one (meaning there were definite trade routes running through this area long before European explorers discovered it). By 1872 Lakeside had started growing rapidly enough that James Meeks decided to move his cattle business from Round Rock to purchase about two thousand acres (800 hectares) northeast of town site so he could lease out grazing rights on high mountain ranges surrounding him thereby becoming one of earliest ranchers in what would eventually be called “the Great Plains” region – still an important cultural terrain today! With more than 1000 people living in Lakeside by 1905 it became evident that much needed infrastructure improvements were necessary such as water systems and schools but due largely to political corruption & lack thereof progress was made slowly but surely culminating in incorporation when elected officials realized how vital municipal government was becoming especiallygiven present day funding constraints!. On December 10th 1902 James Whetstone married Edith Frost at Clearlake Methodist Church Plantation located east side Of IH 35 just south off FM 627 between Alpine Rd & US 87 just past TX 151 junction . They have six children: Vernon Whetstone born 1903; Anna Frost 1915; Edwin Jnr 1918; Dorothy Bessie 1920; Harry Charles 1935& infancy discovered ; John Wesley 1939&1941 ; Shirley Margaret 1945&1948 .Edith passed away 1990
Lakeway was founded on the east side of the Trinity River by Captain James Fenton in 1821. The town grew up around cotton plantations and mercantile businesses, and was established as a county seat in 1834. It incorporated as a city in 1907. Lakeway is located near Austin, Texas, and is home to the University of Texas at Austin.
