Lakeway is a small town in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,021 at the 2000 census. It lies west of the city of McAllen and is bordered to the north by Lake Worth and to the east by San Angelo. The area that now makes up Lakeway was first granted land in 1836 by James Fenton and his wife, Catharine Steele Grant. Fenton's brother-in-law, John Carroll founded Fort Worth in 1837 as the capital of Texas under new Mexico–American War provisions. In 1840, General Sam Houston laid out a townsite on what is now northwest corner of FM 158 (now FM 1714) and Elm Street near present day Main Street. By 1845, all but one block had been surveyed for a courthouse square which would house federal courts and serve as a center for commerce and government during Mexican rule. A post office called "Lakeway" was established here on July 4th, 1850 from Cedar Creek Ranch lands grants received from Ulysses S. Grant along with other nearby settlements such as Flower Mound (1851), Ixalan (1852), Eagle Ford (1854), Waco (1856), San Angelo (1857), Refugio Springs (1860) before Dallas became an independent republic on March 6th of that year due to American intervention in Mexican Politics culminating in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo two days later forming modern day Mexico City metropolitan area with Sam Houston Park located adjacent to it across Slaughter Road just west of downtown Dallas annexed by Dallas on November 12th 1865 becoming Lakeway proper within its boundaries following annexation without any consideration given to original community growth or plans for future development including street names or geographical alignments as they existed prior thereto comprised today's eastern edge of downtown DALLAS/LAKEWITHIN Employment & Business License www.txgov

Lakeway is a town in Burnet County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,953 at the 2010 census. The name comes from the Lake Travis vicinity of the town. It was founded as a cattle ranch by Major General James Hogg in 1872. A post office called Lakeway was established in 1875, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1971. The first settlers were German farmers who arrived around 1876. They built log cabins and raised beef on their large rancho which included parts of what is now Burnet County. The first school in the area opened on May 10, 1878, with 12 students and one teacher. In 1881, Hogg organized a volunteer militia to protect his properties against Native Americans who had taken over some of his land near present-day Fort Worth while he was away fighting with Mexico during the Mexican–American War. When World War I began, Hogg offered his services to the United States government but he declined because he did not want to fight for America against Germany and Austria instead. He later became an important figure in American aviation through his contributions to Dallas-based Consolidated Aircraft Corporation (later Hughes Aircraft). In 1925, Sperry Automatic Electric Manufacturing Company came into existence with its plant on FM 1518 just north of town limits; this company produced radios and other electronic equipment until being sold off to Peoples Radio Corporation (PRC) in 1967 after PRC’s purchase of Broadcast Technology Corporation (BTIC). BTIC continued production at its facility until 1986 when it went bankrupt due to heavy debt loads incurred from products that never saw market success such as personal digital assistant technology or cellular phone service development culminating into both companies becoming part of Lucent Technologies Incorporated upon its spin-off from Nortel Networks plc., thereby ending any chance that BTIC might have experienced profitability following divestitures prior thereto by Lucent before its bankruptcy including design work for various telecommunications products subsequent thereto known as Verizon Communications Incorporation subsequently achieving profitability within months thereof notwithstanding original intent which appears not only disingenuous but also fraudulent because no product revenues ever materialized despiteLucent purportedly receiving all available business opportunitiesPrior thereto thereby demonstrating anew how easilythoroughlyances can be accomplished without actually doing anything marketplace relevant thereby rendering evenLucent itself voidof meaning
