Lakeway is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. The first white person to come to Lakeway was Dr. George Chapman in 1874 and he established a medical office and store on what is now Third Street. A post office was established in 1880, and by 1886 it had become the county seat of Tarrant County. In 1888, the school district was organized and Lakeway became its first schoolhouse. In 1902, a waterworks were built for Lakeway and Fort Worth. The first electric light went on in 1908. In 1912, the city poet laureate won an award from the Texas Academy of Poets for his work "The Morning Star." In 1916, Mayor J P McMorris authorized development of town parkland east of downtown that would eventually encompass . By 1925, over 100 homes had been built there; today only a small remnant remains., most notably some old cottages still standing on former municipal land south of I-10 just west of Loop 610 South exit 58A (the site where Circle K used to be located). From 1931 through 1935 two radio stations were licensed: KTSA (AM) which aired programs from Los Angeles and KLXR (FM) which aired programs from Dallas/Fort Worth.. Both stations were later sold to Texaco who moved their transmitter sites out of town near Grapevine TX to make way for Interstate 10 On July 1st 1959 without warning or fanfare all public services - including electricity - stopped abruptly with no warning given whatsoever! This sudden cutoff left many people scrambling trying find information about what could have caused such an abrupt change; internet resources suggested that perhaps something occurred during Hurricane Floyd but this appeared not to be true as anyFloyd related posts showed up well before then... perplexing anyone who felt like they knew more than what they were seeing! It wasn't until after much outcry did it finally turn out that management decision #1 had been made back then when engineers realized that hurricane damage may have been extensive along TX-Mexico state line+ numerous other areas not yet inspected+ large number OF flooded homes+ severed power lines making communication impossible+ resulting high cost associated with repairs... which fortunately didn't lead too deep into debt! Though some people are still somewhat reluctant about how things might have turned out if proper precautions hadn't been taken it's hard not to givecredit where credit is due! Since 1959 Lakeshore has faced many challenges including constant growth rates (+30% every 5 years), increasing competition from surrounding rural counties (+25% EVERY YEAR), environmental hazards (water seeping under roadsides & into creekbeds (& occasional flooding)), annexation by new municipalities (+5 each year), rapid aging infrastructure (-40% since 2001)...and more recently + rising housing prices (-2%)!!! Despite these challenges lakeshore continues TO thriveadalent citizens committed thereto make their mark on this great community!

The first white settlers in the area were James H. Pool and his brother, John Pool, who arrived in 1836. They founded a post office at Carthage on the edge of what is now Lakeway. In November 1905, Texas State Highway 2 was created when it was extended from its current location east of Austin to Carthage. The highway ran along the alignment of present day US 71 and FM 620 until it crossed into Baylor County in 1915 when FM 620 became US 71. In 1936, US 71 was rerouted to follow SR 3 (now I-35) south from its original routing through Austin to new INT 3 status near Carthage; concurrent with this, FM620 became an appropriately renamed TX 442. Lakeway developed as a small community around Lake Travis before becoming an incorporated municipality in 1951. The population increased rapidly after Hurricane Harvey hit Houston in 2017 and many residents chose to move away fromHouston as they experienced significant damage and lost their homes or businesses.
