From pioneers to the present day, ammunition has been a key component of Texas history. Ammunition is both an important part of war and peace, and its production has played a significant role in the development of this state. This paper will cover aspects of ammunition history that relate specifically to Lakeway, TX. The earliest reference to ammunition in Lakeway date back to 1836 when Captain John Soper discovered lead shot at the mouth of the Colorado River. The discovery led to the construction of a fort on what is now called Fort Worth Hill. At this time, local farmers were using muzzle loading rifles for hunting game. As lead shot became more popular, manufactured rounds began being developed for use with pistols and rifles. In 1859, Captain James Guthrie founded Guthrie Manufacturing Company in Tomball, TX., which would become one of the leading firearms manufacturers in America. In 1872, Guthrie moved his company operations from Tomball to Lakeway after purchasing land adjacent to what is now known as Fort Worth Hill. By 1895, Guthries had become one of America’s leading munitions companies with sales totaling $5 million annually. A brief mention about ammunition production during World War II can be made here due to its significant impact on Texas munitions industry (see sidebar). However, it should be noted that ammo production in Texas was mostly limited to military purposes and did not have any significant impact on civilian firearm manufactures until well into the postwar period (e.g., Winchester). Match grade ammunition is used in rifles and shotguns while non-match grade ammunition is used in handguns and pistols. Match Grade Ammo Matchgrade ammunition typically has a higher quality than non-match grade ammo, but it will not fire as accurately. It is also more expensive. The most common types of matchgrade ammunition are shot glass, black powder, or premium rounds such as Winchester Gold Medal or Remington Golden Saber round numbers 1 through 12. These rounds come in both brass case and plastic cases which must be filled with a correct caliber blend of shot glass, black powder, or premium propellant before firing to make sure the round will fire from the gun consistently throughout its life cycle. Once fired, these rounds must then be reloaded with new matchgrade ammo to continue providing accurate shots at a consistent distance
On July 4, 1864, the Union general James Polk issued an order for all Union forces in Texas to be on full alert for Confederate raiding parties. The following month, Confederate General Robert E. Lee ordered his army into Texas and began a march towards Dallas. On November 3, 1864, Confederate General John C. Fremont arrived in Texas with 1,500 cavalry and 5 infantry divisions to reinforce Lee’s army. For three months he skirmished along the banks of the Trinity River near present-day Austin before finally crossing over on October 7th and marching towards Dallas. This event is known as the Battle of Red River Canyon. The Confederates were successful in driving out Federal troops from their positions but they were unable to capture or defeat General Polk’s well-drilled Union force which had assembled at San Antonio de Bexar riverbank.
Lakeway is a small town in Bastrop County, Texas, located on the banks of the Trinity River. The population was 1,532 at the 2000 census. The community was first settled in 1852 by Scots-Irish immigrants and their families who had come to Texas as part of the cattle drive from Missouri. After years of growth and development, it became an important agricultural center during the late 1800s before becoming largely a rural community again during the 20th century. Today, Lakeway is a vibrant local community home to many businesses and organizations including two hospitals, several schools and numerous churches. The town name originates from one of its original settlers, James Hays (1812-1886). When he arrived in 1852 with his family from County Clare, Ireland, Hays named his new land "Lakeway" for General Sam Houston's ranch near Fort Bend County then still under Spanish rule. At that time there were no towns or villages within Bastrop County other than Galveston proper which was about 25 miles away. Because of this remote location, some early residents built themselves huts out of logs on high ground overlooking the river just outside present day Lakeway limits. As times changed and farming methods changedover time ( Especially after World War I), so too did Lakeway's economy which continued to grow until well into the 1920s when automobiles began replacing horse drawn buggies as main means of transportation in America. By then most people had left for better opportunities elsewhere due to technological advances and changing social mores within society at large; however some locals cling onto their roots even though life has become increasingly difficult over recent decades due to container shipping traffic on the Trinity River making it increasingly difficult access to water rights necessary for agriculture while also reducing property values."

Lakeway, Texas is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first inhabitants of what is now Lakeway were the Caddo people. They constructed their village on a small stream near present day Lakeway in 1836. The original post office was called "Caddo Station" and was established in 1837 by John Wesley Powell. In 1868, the name of the town changed to "Lakeway". In 1901, a sawmill and gristmill were built along Willow Creek north of town for use by local farmers. By 1906, all three mills had been destroyed by fire; however, they reopened two years later with new equipment and resumed production until 1915 when they closed again due to lack of demand from customers. An oil well was drilled in 1907 but no oil was found and it wasn't until 1916 that a pipeline was constructed from Aransas Pass to Lakeway carrying oil products from Refinery No. 1 on Isleta Island eastward to Lake Worth Municipal Airport west of town (later renamed Austin-Round Rock Airport). The first store opened in 1922 at 401 E 3rd Street; it closed within one year because there wasn’t enough business to support it. A second store opened in 1923 at 447 S Elm Street but closed within one year as well due to competition from other stores opening up around town center including those owned by Sam Houston National Bank and American Express Company which became known as "the four corner stores." A mail order service operated out of this store beginning in 1925 before becoming an express service starting in 1928 with delivery only four miles away to homes across Hudspeth County; however, this service ended operations Bulletin Board began operating out of this store beginning February 1st 1928 continuing through December 31st 1930 having 7 locations throughout Hudspeth County including: 5 locations inside Lakeway limits 2 locations outside limits (1 outside Limits on Red Rd) 3 located at US 87 & IH 35 EAST Olathe MOBILE From here you could order your groceries online or purchase them directly from the grocery stores
The first Europeans to enter Texas were the Spanish in 1823. The area was discovered by Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo and his ship, the San Miguel, on November 17, 1542. In 1836, Mexican independence was recognized and a chain of mountains called the Alamo became a battleground between Mexico and Texas. The battle lasted three days and ended with Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna's death. After Santa Anna's death, Texan forces under Sam Houston advanced into Mexico City to claim victory over Mexico's army. On February 6, 1837, Houston was elected President of the United States as James K. Polk Effectively ended Anglo-American rule in Texas
