According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), in 1966, the first shooting protection law was passed in Texas. The law, which applied to handguns and shotguns, required gun owners to use a safety device when firing their firearms. The device was known as a "firearm safety certificate." Since then, NSSF reports that more than 240 state and federal laws have been enacted regulating handgun and shotgun firing. These laws typically restrict the use of certain types of firearm ammunition, require proficiency testing for those who wish to purchase or own a weaponized firearm, and provide for enhanced punishment for individuals who break these regulations. One of the most recent shootings protection statutes enacted in Texas was HB 2256 filed in 2019 by State Rep. Joe Moody. This bill would add an additional five years to any sentence given for possessing a handgun without a pistol grip safety installed. This measure is being protested by opponents who argue that it will only target young adults and allow too many dangerous people access to firearms.

Lake Jackson is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, located on the Brazos River. The population was 1,211 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington–Dallas metropolitan area. The first Europeans to reach Lake Jackson were Spaniards who landed there in 1541 and named it Santiago de las Casas after Saint James of Compostela. In 1836, a group of Americans built fortifications at what is now called Old Fort Houston and founded the settlement which became known as Lake Jackson. In 1886, two companies of United States Marines under General John J. Pershing destroyed all Spanish settlements in Texas except for San Antonio de Bexar (now Austin). One result of this campaign was that most of what is now Tarrant County was acquired by the United States from Spain as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This left only Lake Jackson unoccupied by Americans and under Mexican rule until it was annexed by the United States in 1912 as part of Oklahoma Territory. A post office called "Lake Jackson" was established at what is now downtown in 1886, and remained in operation until 1907. The first store opened in this town on Main Street on October 20th, 1886 (the date also appears on a plaque near old streetlights). By 1910, however, business had declined so much that a new store building not only failed to take off but also caught fire during occupancy; large pieces came tumbling down within minutes into nearby homes causing extensive damage beyond repair even though firefighters arrived promptly on both occasions! The old store building still stands today as an architectural curiosity dating back to those pioneer days...along with several other buildings from that time including a schoolhouse and jail which are also still standing today! In 1912, after annexation by the United States resulted from Oklahoma's admission into statehood, Lake Jackson became Indian Territory again because white Texans wanted nothing to do with their new neighbor - an experience which would last through World War II when many Native American residents migrated to Arlingtonsville for work opportunities during Wartime rationing periods. In 1946-47 Congress passed legislation providing for assimilation into mainstream society for all Indian residents living east OF Interstate 30 although many more continued to live west OF I-30 until they finally lost their status following passage of the American Indian Education Act of 1978. As per federal law all Indians must have full documentation before being able to receive education or any other services mandated by Title VII et al., making contact with these people difficult if not impossible without special permission/access granted by government officials whose decision may be affected adversely by tribal affiliations or ceremonial activities taking place within boundaries originally determined pursuant thereto...Today very few Indians reside east & west OF I-30 due largelyto lack thereof Governmental recognition/approval formerly granted herein Aspects affecting Tribe currently facing conflicts: cultural practices regarding chiefdoms & hereditary leaders presently unresolved

However, despite its struggles during World War II (the city was bombed in 1945), LakeJackson continued to grow steadily through the years until it reached its current size thanks to suburban expansion and other economic endeavors. Today, LakeJackson remains an important cultural and tourist destination for those living within its boundaries; as well as anyone visiting Dallas or surrounding counties for any reason.
The first white person to live in the area now known as Lake Jackson was Andrew Johnson. He and his family founded a cabin on the banks of the river in 1835. The town of Pierre was founded around this time, and Johnson is considered its founder.
