This tension led to many shootings and conflicts between black residents and white farmers alike. In 1881, an altercation took place at the local store between two groups of black men and women. During the fight one woman was shot dead by another woman who happened to be wielding a gun; she later died from her injuries. In 1898, Lake Jackson voters passed an ordinance making it illegal for anyone under 21 years old to possess any firearm without first getting permission from their parents or guardian. This law remained in effect until 1934 when it was repealed due to changing social norms within society towardsgun ownership among minors
Lake Jackson is a small, isolated body of water located in the central region of Texas. The bodies of water that make up the town are all within a radius of about 20 miles. The name Lake Jackson was derived from Jack, an early settler in the area. At one time, it was part of Creek County. In 1836, it became part of Robertson County and in 1881 it became part of Webb County. It reverted to Creek County again in 1907. Lake Jackson is on the border between Robertson and Webb Counties and has a total area of just over 7 square miles. It is only 2 percent covered by water and its surface is made mostly out of sand and gravel that forms what locals call "the flats." The majority of the town's population lives on or around its shoresline or within a few blocks thereof. The history of Lake Jackson can be traced back to at least 1836 when Jack settled there with his family after moving from Missouri Territory following the Mexican-American War. jack built himself a cabin near what is now downtownJacksonville on land he had purchased from Captain John Smith for $1 per acre (this amount does not include any improvements). For many years, Jack ran his business dealing goods brought downriver by boat through his door - this trade allowed him to build up some contacts in Austin and provide support for American expansionism during the first half of the 19th century. By 1840, he had married Jane Pemberton and set up home with her at what today is known as Old Fort Jacksonville on Belle Isle Lighthouse Point (now known as Robinson Landing Marina). They raised two children; Anna (1840-1910) who married G W Brown (1857-1924),and John WesleyJackison IV (1845-1935). Eventually they moved to what would become Eastlake Place where they resided until Jane died in 1865 due to yellow fever contracted while visiting their son at West Point military academy; only six months old! Anna served as interim mother until white women were finally given legal status within Texas upon statehood in 1870 which led to more black women enteringwhite households across much broader areas statewide including Jacksonville; however Anna managed without child support ever managing beyond basic needs such as clothing until 1910 when she lost custody hearing resulting from her husband's death suddenly days before trial due to natural disease – another major accomplishment for an illiterate African American woman living conditions changed dramatically during this period especially since women could no longer rely exclusively upon menfolk alone for subsistence outside traditional male domains – social services increased sharply paralleling overall economic development creating opportunities galore particularly among previously disenfranchised groups like African Americans via new channels mired deeply entrenched racism

A ferry service operated between Houston and Galveston until 1859 when the railroad reached those towns directly. By 1870, there were over 100 businesses operating on both sides of the river near present day Lake Jackson Boulevard and IH 10 (now Loop 610). Lake Jackson, Texas was founded by the Mexican government in 1836 as part of a larger effort to control the area between Mexico and Texas. The San Antonio Company, led by José de la Luz y Peralta, claimed the area for Spain. In 1837, Mexico ceded this part of Texas to the United States under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The land west of Tomball Creek was granted to James Polk in 1845 as a result of his efforts to gain admission into the U.S. as a slave state.
