In 1851 two men - Amos Ransom and Hiram Berry - each bought 100 acres (40 hectares) of land between Jaxon Creek and Lone Star Road which became known as Ransom Bottom Ranch. This property would later be developed into Shady Oaks subdivision which straddles Greenbelt Road across from Lake Jackson Elementary School today with lakeside homes on one side while streets run along its perimeter provide privacy to those living near them while they enjoy their peaceful surroundings; much like their forefathers did centuries ago when they founded this region full of canals, creeks, forests/mountains etc.; making this place one of many special places found withinDallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Area

He also served as postmaster at Austin from 1850-52; he returned to Texas and founded this community because he felt Austin should have a government like those found west of the Mississippi River
The first white settlers in the area were Frenchmen who landed in 1795. The area was part of Spanish Texas until 1836 when it became a United States territory. In 1845, President James K. Polk signed the Treaty of Goliad which ceded all of Texas to Mexico. The area was annexed by the United States in 1865 and became part of what is now Dallas County, Texas.
