The first rifle ammunition manufactured in the community was created by Elisha Gray & Son in 1875. This type of ammunition was used for handguns and muskets. In 1886, Chubb & Company commenced manufacturing a new type of rifle ammunition called "Volcanic". This round caused great controversy because it consisted of lead shot that broke upon detonation. Consequently, it was not well-received by shooters and museums alike. In 1907, AVCO began producing pistol rounds made with jellied lead; this round became popular because it could easily penetrate paper targets at long ranges. In 1914, Winchester introduced a new type of ammo known as "XM855". This projectile contained 585 grains (27 g) of tungsten metal that accelerated when fired into powder gases generated by firearms firing other types of rounds such as buckshot or birdshot. The late 1800s saw much growth in Lake Jackson due to its strategic location on the Trinity River between Dallas and Houston along with its booming cotton industry. However, during World War II gun manufacturers shifted their production to support military efforts overseas instead of locally based companies like AVCO and Winchester who were unable to meet wartime demand for munitions products domestically . The town was renamed Jackson in 1907 after General Ulysses S. Grant's visit to the area. When Lake Jackson passed into private hands in the 1930s, it lost its importance as a commercial center and declined until the early 1990s when it resumed growth as a bedroom community for Austin. Today, Lake Jackson remains an agricultural center with many crops grown such as corn, soybeans, cottonseed oil and hay production. The town also has some Manufacturing interests including two light manufacturing facilities that produce electronic components and one that produces plastics products

The name "Jackson" was given to the creek which ran through it and its location on the then-new Jack Hills ranch made it an ideal spot for a small town. Today, Lake Jackson is one of the most vibrant communities in Jasper County with its wide variety of businesses and residents who are always striving for excellence in all they do. The town has many events that bring people together such as its Annual Christmas Parade and Festival which celebrate local culture, artistry and food from around the world during December 1-3rd each year; as well as its twice yearly Fireworks show over downtown on July 4th.; In late summer/early fall there's also the annual Big Apple BBQ festival where locals from all over come to taste some of Jasper's best BBQ while enjoying live music, arts & crafts vendors, kids' activities (including pumpkin carving), feeder races and more!
Lake Jackson was a small, shallow body of water on the border of Texas and Mexico. It was named for General James Fannin, who fought in the Mexican-American War. The first white person to live in what is now Lake Jackson was Tom Sawyer, who settled there in 1836.
