For many people, the history of scopes begins with La Marque, Texas. This small town in east-central Texas was home to a number of instrument manufacturers during the early 1900s. Some of these companies were founded by men who had an interest in optics and telescope manufacturing. The first manufacturer to build a scope in La Marque was Noldeke & Sons, which opened its doors in 1892. Other companies that built scopes here include Wm. Hurlbut & Bros., Morse & Whitney, and Hargrave Brothers. Some of these firms produced high-quality telescopes and microscopes that were used by scientists and educators throughout the 1800s and into the 20th century. Many of these products are still being sold today! In 1902, Frank Vail organized a group of businessmen from La Marque to start a new company called Vail Instrument Corporation (VI). VI became one of the largest telescope manufacturers in the country during this time period. In 1928, VI merged with Brownell Instruments Company to form Brownells-Vail Instruments Incorporated (BVI). BVI continued to produce high quality telescopes and microscope equipment until it ceased production in 1985. Today, remnants of BVI can be found scattered throughout eastern Texas thanks to their archives at Rice University’s Teaneck campus!

La Marque, Texas is located in Lubbock County, Texas, and has a population of over 5,000. The city was founded in 1879 by John F. Hardin as a trading post on the Chisholm Trail. La Marque became an important transportation center for goods moving westward through the Great Plains. Today, La Marque is a culturally rich community with its own small-town feel and proud history. The first settlers in La Marque were Methodist missionaries who arrived in 1879. They built their first log cabin near what is now the current City Hall Park. The missionaries also established a school and bakery in LaMarque. In 1886, the town had its first election when it became one of three communities within Lubbock County that voted to secede from Tom Green’sgovernorship of Texas. In 1907, JF Hardin donated land to build what would become City Hall Park. The park was designed by architect George Wickersham and opened to the public in 1911. Today, City Hall Park remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in LaMarque because of its central location at Broadway and I-10/I-35 interchange and its many attractions such as fountains, Statuary Garden (a free admission open to all), gift shops, restaurants, and more than 20 historical exhibits which explain aspects of local life during this time period including pre-Civil War days; post-World War II years; and recent history including Hurricane Harvey events that have impacted the community adversely Today’s LaMarchecommunity has come about due to many factors such as economic development; growth related to new oil production areas; increased access to education opportunities thanks to Texarkana Independent School District rebuilding after Hurricane Harvey damage; annexation by neighboring Tom Green Township government following incorporation into Lubbock County government as part of governmental reorganization following passage of Republic Act No 7430 which changed county boundaries on January 1st 2018 The city fathers decided that they wanted their own hospital so they started looking for land adjacent to City Hall Park where they could build it without interference from Tom Green Township government They found an area between Old Adobe Road on the east side and Loop 820 on the west side which they named “City Hospital Site” They began building what would eventually become laMarche Hospital while still living at City Hall Park until 1959 when ownership transferred permanently from Tom Green Township government to laMARQUE CITYHOSPITAL INC . On July 16th 1960 , mayor Hargrave dedicated laMarche Hospital becoming one of only two hospitals operating within lubbocks county limits at that time Lamarche Hospital continues operations today providing critical health services for residents throughout our community

The scopes were used by scholars to view astronomical objects in detail. They were also used to study hunting animals and their behavior. La Marque, Texas is located in the Mexican state of Veracruz and was founded in 1836. The town sprang up around cattleherding operations run by Colonel Joaquín de la Vega and his brother, José de la Vega. La Marque became a cesspool for the surrounding area due to its lack of drinking water and mud flats that made it difficult for horses to walk across. In 1870, La Marque's first school was built on a dirt lot behind the Vega ranch house. In 1886, the town had 3 stores and 20 residents. By 1912, La Marque had 7 businesses with 100 employees and 10 schools. The population reached 1,500 in 1960 but declined to 350 by 1990. One of history's most memorable moments occurred when President Lyndon Johnson delivered his famous “ There’s no way I can do this without your help” speech here in 1961 during his campaign for office against John F Kennedy. One hundred men from La Marque took part in LBJ’s inauguration as Ulysses S Grant’s Vice Presidential candidate that year. The city council voted unanimously to rename itself “Houston” after then- Mayor William Hogg following Houston’s annexation into Texas in 1895 (though some residents still refer to themselves as “LaMarquesians”). The name change didn't go through because many people at City Hall felt that Houston would better reflect Texan culture than a Spanish-speaking town named after Veracruzian colonel. In 2002, Houston annexed much of adjacent Clear Lake Village which gave rise to another term being used locally: "Clearlake Heights".
