Gun targets have been a part of La Marque for over 80 years. The first target was put up in 1911 by W.A. "Bad" Hargrave, who also operated the local firing range. From then until 1942, when the military closed down the range, all shooting took place at the old town hall off Broadway. The first state-of-the-art target facility was opened in 1949 by Lyle J. Sorenson and his son, Donnell Sorenson, Sr., and was used by both the Texas National Guard and the La Marque Rifle Club. In 1957, Donnell Sorenson donated an entire suite of targets to use at the new indoor rifle range which is now known as Riggs Shooting Complex. In 1959, Gussie & Bud Mueller opened their own target store on Main Street in La Marque and soon became one of the most popular suppliers of targets in Southwest Texas. They continued to supply LaMarque with high quality targets until 1984 when they moved to their present location on Highway 281 east of town - still providing top notch service today! In 1985 Lonnie Tillett started manufacturing his own Target Engines from a small garage near his home in La Marque. This helped to bring back some traditional aspects of Targets history such as handloading your own ammo or using pre-made ammunition types (e.g., .22 LR). Lonnie has continued this tradition ever since and these days there are many options for consumers including online purchase through various websites or even direct delivery from Lonnie's shop himself! Today, Targets continues as one of La Marque's favorite tourist attractions - making it easy for everyone to enjoy its historical significance while learning about how guns were once used here!

The first gun target in La Marque, Texas was a shooting gallery at the fort. The fort was built in 1836 and became an Arsenal in 1845. It served as a military post until it was abandoned in 1865. In 1872, the fort was used as a munitions depot. In 1902, it became an armory again. In 1912, La Marque's only high school opened and served students from La Marque and nearby towns.
La Marque is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,431 at the 2000 census. The Decatur Independent School District serves La Marque. The first residents of La Marque were French Canadians who came to the area in the late 1800s as part of the transcontinental railroad project. In 1892, they founded a grocery store and post office in what is now downtown La Marque. prospering since then, businesses have included restaurant chains such as Chili's and Carl's Jr., and home builders like Armstrong Homes and Lennar Homebuilders. The current Main Street downtown was built in 1928 by local builder Harry A. Hamerstrom. It is one of Hudspeth County's oldest streets with over 20 years of history that has seen many modifications and additions including a water main replacement in 2004 related to Hurricane Rita; a new jail (opened in 2006) which replaced an earlier structure that had been destroyed by wind damage; and a new library which opened on November 5th, 2009 adjacent to the original building which served as both school district headquarters from 1927 until 1959 when it closed due to budget cuts after being moved from central Hudspeth County into rural De Witt Townshipothal).
In what must have been an exciting time for target shooters, on October 14th, 1868, the first modern military handgun was patented by George W. Smith of Buffalo, New York. The revolver was designed to fire a ball with a muzzle velocity of up to 375 feet per second (122m/s). It had a short barrel and an unusual hammer that could be manually released by the shooter to eject the ball from the barrel before it hit the ground. Although there were many early firearms designs and prototypes, no real commercial success resulted from these efforts until 1876 when Smith & Wesson debuted their Model 6 revolver which became one of the most popular handguns in history. This weapon featured a six-round magazine and a single-action trigger action that made it easy and comfortable to shoot. In addition to its popularity as a personal firearm, this gun also served in various American wars including the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), Civil War (1861- 1865), and World War I (1914- 1918).

In 1836, a group of entrepreneurs named James H. Kenedy and John S. Chilton founded the town of La Marque on the banks of the Red River in present-day Texas. The two men had emigrated from Ireland in 1834 and were looking for a place to start a new life after being banned from England due to their Catholic faith. They decided that the safest place to establish themselves was in what is now northeastern Mexico, so they sailed overland across the objections of local officials. They arrived at what is now La Marque on October 15, 1836, thanks to an agreement between Mexican President Antonio López de Santa Anna and U.S. President Andrew Jackson that allowed American citizens free passage through Mexico if they landed on its soil with goods not related to war or trade. Kenedy and Chilton quickly developed La Marque into one of the most important stations on the Red River Valley because it offered easy access to food supplies and transportation beyond what was available at nearby Fort Worth or Wichita Falls. The town also became a center for cattle ranching and mining operations, which helped support Kenedy and Chilton's business ventures. By 1840, La Marque had become one of the most important towns in Texas because it was home to more than 1,000 residents who engaged in various businesses and services including agriculture, cattle ranching, mining (the first significant discovery in Texas), manufacturing (the first known instance of using electricity in Texas), education (the first public school opened in Texas), law enforcement (the first county courthouse was built here), as well as political activity (Kenedy served as mayor from 1841 until his death). The city's growth slowed during World War II because much of southern Texas was bombed by U.S. forces; however, its economy has since recovered thanks to continued development within its boundaries including several large industrial complexes such as Terrapin Mills Inc., Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., Googleplex Inc., Hughes Aircraft Holdings Co., UT Arlington Health System Ltd., Baylor College Medical Center etc.; as well as numerous small businesses located throughout its neighborhoods such as Jimmy Dean Pizza & Subs LLC; G&W Dairy; Home Depot; Menard’s department store; Waterford Steakhouse & chops restaurant; AutoZone Inc.; United Oil Company LP.; AT&T Mobility LLC.; First Data Corporation LP.; Pembina Coal Limited Partnership;; Hammond Truck Lines LLC.; Legacy Energy Partners LLP;; Hobby Lobby Stores Incorporated;; Westside USA Tire
The La Marque area is located in the central portion of Texas and has been populated for at least 10,000 years. The first European to visit the area was Antonio de la Vega who discovered a salt mine on the current site of LaMarque in 1736. In 1857, LaMarque was founded as a ghost town by Texans following their statehood. LaMarque was abandoned in 1919 when its water supply became exhausted.
