During World War I, many servicemen from LaMarqué enlisted in military units across America while their families took care Of wounded soldiers in hospitals back home In Mexico City or elsewhere In Mexico City during that time period Some local citizens also served during World War I as volunteers either with their companies or individual efforts such as Mrs. Anna Jandreau who cooked meals for troops at Red Cross field hospital near her home until she fell seriously ill later that year and died suddenly without notice to her family who were left behind With charges against her husband finally dropped after public outcry she is buried next to him side by side With his medals & awards still prominently displayed above ground
