La Marque is a small town located in Tarrant County, Texas, about 25 miles northeast of Fort Worth. The population was 4,521 at the 2010 census. La Marque is one of the few remaining farming communities in Tarrant County and it has been largely unchanged since the early days of its development. La Marque began as a small settlement on the banks of Buffalo Bayou near present-day Prairie View A&M University. It was named for Captain James H. Marquette, who had led an exploration party through this area in 1824. In 1840, LaMarque became part of what would become Tarrant County and was renamed after General Antonio de la Vega y Martinez, commander of Mexican forces during the Texan Revolution. The community developed primarily around two churches: First Baptist Church and Saint John's Episcopal Church. Both were built between 1872 and 1875 by members of the Lafayette Parish Committee. The first Baptist church served as both a residential and commercial center until it burned down in 1935; however, Second Baptist Church still stands today and serves as both a polling place for local elections and as a museum/gallery open to the public. In 1915, LaMarque voters approved annexation by Fort Worth; however, this did not happen until 1926 when Governor John Connally signed legislation creating Tarrant County from parts of Dallas County Ginormous acreage had been acquired eastward from Wichita Falls in 1907 by J P Morgan (the founder of Home Depot) in order to create what would eventually become Fort Worth City Limits Park - still called LaMarque Road - within which current-day LaMarque lies seated on about 1/4 mile (1 kilometer) wide strip that parallels Main Street downtown). Today’s tiny town owes its origins to these purchases: since World War II almost all major employers – including many large companies – have relocated away from central Fort Worth or done so only very slowly due to environmental concerns or zoning regulations preventing them from doing so completely within city limits; moreover much larger facilities (such as ExxonMobil’s new refinery) have been built just outside city limits ever since then without any impact on either population or official boundaries

After World War II, la marqueros shifted their focus to agriculture and produced oilseed crops such as sorghum and soybeans until the early 21st century when petroleum production began to increase in Texas statewide
La Marque was founded in 1851 by José Antonio Carrillo and his wife, Dona Isabel. The town was named after the Spanish word "Marque," meaning "mark." Carrillo had come to Texas in 1846 as a prisoner of war and he decided to settle in what is now La Marque. He built a log cabin on the site and started trading goods with the Indians. In 1850, Carrillo married Dona Isabel, who also served as the town's first postmaster. The couple operated a small store until they bought an spacious lot on which they built their own home. They soon added another family to their growing population, and in 1856 they had five children. By 1860, La Marque had become one of the most important towns intxas because it lay at the crossroad of several important trails that connected Houston with New Mexico, San Antonio, and Dallas. In 1861, Carrillo helped lead an expedition that discovered new gold fields near Santo Domingo de los Caballeros (now Corpus Christi). After finding some valuable nuggets, he donated them to la Monterrey Cathedral for use as part of its collection. In 1877-78, La Marque hosted the Santa Anna Exposition commemorating Mexican independence from Spain. More than 4 million people visited la Marque during this year-long event that included displays of artifacts from all over Mexico and America.
