At that time, the Storey family sold their ownership interest in J.C.'s Gun Shop to Henson Corporation (later Colt Corporation) for $2 million dollars cash and $100 million worth of stock in 1944. The new owners decided not to renew the business license and closed shop in 1945 due to heavy competition from other manufacturers of sporting arms and ammunition. The first attempt atgun lubrication was made by George Eickhoff in 1881 while he was working as an engineer for Confederate munitions manufacturer John Browning & Sons Incorporated (now Smith & Wesson). He used a mixture of beeswax, petroleum jelly and turpentine to coat the barrels of artillery pieces during operations; however this failed because it caused metal fatigue within weeks of use. La Marque is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1876 by John A. LaMarque and his wife Sarah Ann (née Neely). In 1893, they donated land to the City of Austin for its first public school district. The city built a new high school on the land in 1907 and named it LaMarque High School after them both. In 1927, the City of Austin merged with Hudspeth County to form what is now Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. By then, LaMarque had become an unincorporated community. The local paper company was founded in 1902 by Wm Hargrave and J M McNaught as Houston Newspapers Corporation. After World War II it became known as The Daily Herald Company until it sold its assets to Allred Johnson Publishing Company in 1985 and changed its name to News-Herald Corporation On July 1st, 2009 The Herald Company ceased operation along with all other fine arts publications within TX under one roof; that being Chilton Press - a subsidiary from Pease Printing &Publishing which bought out Chilton Press parent company Hearst Corporation back in 1984

In 1865, Fort La Marque was decommissioned and turned into a public park. In 1925, a group of Texans led by then-Governor John Connally purchased Fort La Marque from the state government and reopened it as an advertising center for their home state. It continued to be used as an advertising center until 1975 when it became a museum open to the public. Today, Fort LaMarque is one of Texas’ most popular tourist destinations with its unique history and architecture preserved inside its walls!
