The La Marque Gun Light Company was founded in 1881 by a group of farmers and ranchers. The company manufactured gun lights, lanterns, and other light equipment. The firm continued to operate until 1942. At that time, the company merged with the Western Electric Company. In 1942, the La Marque Gun Light Company became part of American Electric Power Corporation.

La Marque, Texas is a small town in Brown County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,746 at the 2000 census. La Marque is located on FM 1420 and TX 3594. The first settlers in what is now La Marque arrived in 1847. In 1861, Eliza Clements married John Waddell and they founded the community of LaMarque on land grant from the Mexican government. The community was named after French explorer Jean-Baptiste Lamarq who had explored the area in 1768. Spanish contingent under General Joaquin Miller invaded Texas in 1836 and destroyed much of what became La Marque before being driven back by American forces. The post office called LaMarque "Marrue" until 1907 when it changed to its current name; La Marque was incorporated as a town on December 9, 1908. The first store opened in 1909 and the first school was built that year. The present courthouse was built between 1911 and 1913 and contains a large collection of historical artifacts such as cannons from the Mexican War which were donated by local residents to help fund their project. As with most towns throughout Brown County, there has been an increase in development over recent years due to numerous new jobs opportunities within commuting range as well as easy access to outdoor recreation including fishing, hunting, boating/kayaking and swimming; all perfect for those who enjoy spending time outdoors!

La Marque is a town in Llano County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,642 at the 2000 census. La Marque has been called "The Birthplace of Texas" because it was from here that cattle were first brought to this country. The town also became known for its cotton fields and other agricultural products. In 1851, John Hogg founded LaMarque on a peninsula in the Trinity River. He named it after the Marquise de la Marque, who had come to Texas during the Mexican-American War and settled near present-day San Antonio. Hogg built a store and two homes there in 1852, becoming one of the earliest settlers in what would become Llano County. In 1853, he married Eliza Coleman and moved his family to LaMarque. They raised five children here: John (1854-1916), Maudie (1858-1937), Harry (1860-1931), Fannie (1862-1945), and Patsy (1865-1943). The most important event in LaMarque's history occurred on July 7, 1881 when President James Kenedy signed into law the famous Cotton Plan of 1865 which made it mandatory for all states to buy quotas of cotton from slaveowners willing to free their slaves within three years! This event helped set off a great backlash against slavery throughout America which led eventually to its demise around 1840s. In 1897, LaMarque hosted the first major international rodeo championships outside of Mexico City with more than 350 riders from 20 countries competing in 10 events over two days! In 1907–08, an oil well was drilled next door at nearby Wimberley and began producing natural gas; however, due to high production costs associated with drilling such wells in remote areas there wasn't much demand for local goods until after World War II when people started driving into Llano County for jobs in nearby Houston suburbs!
