Lee's army and also doubled as a military prison after Confederate prisoners were captured in 1862. The fort was abandoned in 1865, but was later reactivated in support of the Federal government during World War II. Today, Fort Worth is a major cultural and commercial center in North Texas, home to many large corporations such as Wal-Mart and ExxonMobil.
