The first gun shown at an armory exhibition was a Colt Model 1851 from 1892. From 1893 to 1899, rifles showed up regularly at armory exhibitions with new models being developed each time. In 1895, General James Fenton organized a rifle team for US Military Academy (West Point) which competed against European teams. One reason why American arms were so successful in World War I was because Americans had become very proficient with firearms since the Revolutionary War. In 1903, President Theodore Roosevelt issued Executive Order 6372 which called for all government agencies to get handguns within 12 months of becoming operational. This order saved lives by giving law enforcement officers access to pistols instead of shotguns or rifles that could be used as weapons

La Marque, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 5,527 at the 2000 census. La Marque is one of the fastest growing small towns in the United States. In 2002, La Marque became the first community in Hudspeth County to be certified by HUD as an affordable housing development opportunity for low-income families. In 2007, La Marque made national headlines when it was announced that Walmart would be opening a supercenter there. The store has since become one of the most popular anchors in town and has helped to drive economic growth and development around town. La Marque is home to two high schools – Christoval High School and La Loma Elementary School – as well as several businesses including a bank, doctors offices and a post office. There are also large acreages surrounding La Marque which have been developed into potential mixed-use or commercial developments including an auto dealership complex and a glass factory. The City of LaMarque was created in 1958 by combining portions of both Hudspeth County towns of Pecos and Marble Falls with land from Longview Municipal Airport southward to date Creek Road (now US Highway 290). Incorporation papers were filed on December 9th, 1957 with Clerk’s Office Wm H Farragher records show that incorporation took place on January 9th following approval from both cities council meetings; Town Meeting No 1 being held on January 10th followed by Town Meeting No 2 on January 11th The original plans called for 350 homes but this increased rapidly to include more than 1,000 after some lands were reserved for parkland later used for other purposes such as industrial parks or research facilities within Travis Air Force Base military installation at Lackland AFB . LaMarque was originally named San Marcos derigida after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's victory over Mexican troops in 1824 at San Marcos derigida Creek. However, because Mexico refused to recognize the new United States government created by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, San Marcos became known as LaMarque in honor of Captain John H. Smith. In 1835, Captain John H. Smith married Maria Lina Alvarez y Martinez (1815-1886), who was from Monterrey and had come to Texas with her parents when she was just six months old. The La Marque, Texas area was first settled by the Comanche and Kiowa people in the late 1800s. The town was founded on a ranch that belonged to Captain Edwin Folsom. In 1892, the town was named after Commodore John A. Hodge of the United States Navy. In 1912, La Marque became an independent municipality and also enjoyed a post office until it closed in 1984.
