La Marque is a small town in Kerr County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tyler–Clear Creek Metropolitan Statistical Area. La Marque is located on the banks of the Neches River. The first post office in La Marque was established on November 6, 1875, by T. P. Cook and Wm. H. Fulks. La Marque developed as a farming community with origins dating back to 1853 when James Fenton erected a log cabin near present-day LaMarque to provide hospitality to travelers passing through the area on their way from Louisiana to Texas or Mexico City. In 1881, James Fenton's son John built a larger cabin about two miles west of LaMarque for himself and his family; this became known as "Fenton's Fort".
