Others think that it may have been difficult or impossible for pioneers to transport large quantities of goods upriver so they instead built their homes near the mouth of the Sabine River where they could pick up supplies easily on their return trips downstream. Finally, some believe that early residents simply did not have enough available land or money to warrant setting up permanent settlements
