Kingsville is a town in Brazos County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,674 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Brazos County. Kingsville began as a small settlement on August 12, 1874, when J.D. Clements and his family moved from Mansfield to Kingsville after purchasing land from the Kenedy family. The first post office in Kingsville was established on November 15, 1875. A store and log schoolhouse were both built in 1876; the first teacher was Mrs. Fenton. In 1880, farmers Elisha Lowry and John Brown donated land for a cotton gin and distillery; this became known as Browns distillery complex today north of downtown Kingsville (formerly part of the town). In 1888, an oil well was drilled by Henry Ford near present-day Kingsville; development followed soon thereafter with several oil wells being drilled in Brazos County including one near present-day Waco (later Waco City) in 1890 which proved to be successful and led to increased production at Browns distillery complex along with other businesses that developed around it such as grocery stores (now First Baptist Church), lawyers’ offices (now Baylor University Law School), banks (now largest bank in Texas), pro football players’ training camps (now Texans Football League team), schools (Waco Independent School District now Dallas Independent School District) and hospitals (New Braunfels Veterans Hospital). Kingsville, Texas is a small town in the interior of Texas. It is located in Humble County, about 25 miles east of Houston. The population was 2,914 at the 2000 census. Kingsville was founded by parents of Scots immigrants in 1857 as a farming community on the banks of the Brazos River. In 1865, it became a post office and soon developed into a commercial center with cotton mills and other businesses. Kingsville has always been an agricultural town but its growth since World War II has been based on manufacturing: oil production began in Kingsville in 1945 and new industries have sprung up such as plastics and textiles. Today, Kingvillians are proud residents of their hometown that has seen much growth over the years – from its early days as just a farming community to becoming one of Houston’s most diverse neighborhoods.

Kingsville, Texas is located in the southeastern corner of Texas, on the east side of the San Antonio River. The town was started by Scots-Irish settlers in 1836 and named after King George III of Great Britain. The town quickly became a center for cattle ranching and cotton farming, and General Sam Houston developed a sugar refinery in Kingsville during the 1840s. By 1845, Kingsville had a population of 1,500 people and it was renamed Dallas to honor then-President James K. Polk’s visit to the area that year. In 1886, however, Kingsville began to experience economic decline due to the lower prices of cottonseed oil brought about by American railroad construction. However, due to its location on the river and its close proximity to other eastern Texans settlements such as Amarillo and Wichita Falls, Kingsville continued to be an important regional center throughout much of the 20th century. In 1985, however, when River City (later Irving) incorporated as a city within Dallas County, Kingsville officially ceased being a city and became an unincorporated community once again.
Kingsville was founded in 1837 by the brothers John and David Kingsville. The town became a post-office in 1848, and its first store opened in 1850. It grew rapidly during the 1800s, becoming an important agricultural center. In 1902, Kingsville incorporated as a city.
