Kingsville is a small town in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas. It is located near Grapevine, and its population was 7,724 at the 2010 census. The Riflemans rifle range, which opened in 1892, remains one of the most prestigious gun ranges in Texas. In 1901, brothers Harry and John Slaughter opened a grocery store on Kingsville's west side. In 1912 they added a shooting gallery to their business. That year, they also built the first school in Kingsville; it was called "Auntie Mame's School". The Slaughters were also responsible for building the first Presbyterian church in Kingsville (the First Baptist Church). In 1916, J.B. & Hetty Sims opened their own grocery store on Main Street across from the Riflemans'. JB Sims became known as "The Gunsmith of Kingsville." He built several homes in Kingsville and donated them to townspeople for use as stores or residences; these include Simms Hall (now part of UTEP), Mrs. Sims' House (now used as an apartment complex), and Mr. Sims' Store (now used as office space). In 1922, Wm Hodge opened his general store on West Main Street across from Mrs. Sims' House; this store was later renamed "Hodge's", after Wm.'s father-in-law,. Kingsville is a small town in Corpus Christi County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Corpus Christi County. The name originated from the Spanish word "kingsville" meaning "fortress." Kingsville was founded by Anglo-Saxon settlers in 1847 as a post office called Kingsvillet. In 1854, it became the county seat ofCorpus Christi County and has been continuously so since that time. The settlement around Kingsvillet was first composed of farmers and their families who had come from adjacent counties during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). Upon independence from Mexico in 1845, Texans decided to Conflict for their statehood by forming provisional governments without Indian nations or women among them; this led to increased tensions with other counties over land grants and jurisdiction withinTexas territory. A group of men from McLennan County traveled to San Antonio in early November 1846 to purchase Rancho Rincon de la Hacha (now part of Brownsville) from Manuel de la Fuente y Alvarado for $2,500 CAD. Residents of Kingsvillet started arriving on horseback and wagon trains in late January 1847 to take up land grants offered at various points along the Rio Grande River valley eastward into what is now Cameron County and southward into Bexar County (including Gonzales).
