Kingsville is a small town in the County of Tarrant, in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kingsville was founded by Texans who moved there from what is now Comanche County in 1847 to take up land given them by the Mexican government as part of a land grant program following Mexico's independence from Spain. The town site had been chosen because it was flat and easily watered, two important factors for early settlement along the Rio Grande River Valley. In 1854, Kingsville established its first post office under license from Major General David Fannin, commander of Santa Anna's army during the Mexican-American War and later governor of Texas (1855-58). That same year, James A. White opened one of America's first cotton ginneries here at what is now Old Kingsville Baptist Church on FM 620 about northeast of town square. In 1859, King's Creek Dam was completed upstream from present day King's Creek Road and downstream from present day Grimes Ferry Road in what are now Kingsville and Arlington Heights neighborhoods; it became a major source of water power for local mills until 1965 when an electric plant replaced that activity. The townsite plat for Kingsville was filed withthe Webb County Commissioners on November 15, 1860,[2] just days after McIntosh Rancho de las Palomas had been patented on October 16 by John Hancey[3] – both parcels forming much of today’s east side zip code 76533 – which lay immediately eastward (north)of King’s Creek Dam across San Antonio River valley to within sight but not touch or control (plus Alamo Plaza [later Arroyo Seco]). In 1862 Olive Byrne claimed title to considerable portions including buildings lots near Griggs Ferry Rd., Pecos River & Bexar Counties line; she did not receive title until 1865 when her husband leased property adjoining creek to Hudspeth Brothers Coal Co.; they named their holdings “Olive Byrne Rancho de las Palomas” – later Osoyoosa Mesa Wilderness Preserve.[4][5][6][7] At various times since then various claimants have tried to stake claim over this vast tract; most recently thru deed offers made through web site www.txlandlordusa dot com/claims/ kingsvilletx . Claimants have included Quanah Parker’s heirs apparent [8], Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones [9], current Mayor Greg Abbott [10], and several thousand ranchers grazing on more than 1 million acres grazed by cattle since earliest Spanish settlements in this area more than 200 years ago – also some Veracruz Native Americans currently living thereabouts & others still living off hunting & fishing opportunities enjoyed largely free by these people for centuries prior thereto!
