Kingsville, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas located about 25 miles northeast of downtown Dallas and about 25 miles southeast of Houston. The population was 4,812 at the 2010 census. By 1900,Kingsville had 15 businesses employing more than 200 people with a total value of $1 million dollars (2000). The town's growth came to a stop around 1930 when World War II began; oil production shifted away from ranching and into manufacturing due to advances in technology that made it possible to produce large quantities of goods without having to transport them long distances. Since then, Kingsville has slowly but surely regained its former prominence as an agricultural center with a focus on cornmeal production or smoke curing tobacco products such as cigars or cigarettes
Kingsville is a town in Willacy County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Kingsville was founded in 1859 by Scotsmen who had emigrated to the Lone Star State from Stewart's Bay in Scotland. The first post office was established in 1867, and the name changed to Kingsville in 1907 after Captain John Kingsbury, an American Revolutionary War veteran and entrepreneur. In 1928, King's Creek Dam was completed on the Trinity River near present-day Kingsville; this created Lake Travis which made nearby Kingsville a popular summer resort for locals and visitors alike until it became dry as a bone during times of drought. The town of Kingsville experienced its most dramatic growth beginning in 1957 when oil exploration began along the Trinity River near present day Kingsville. In just 10 years, oil production increased more than 20 fold and led to an influx of new residents and businesses into the community. By 1971, over 50 percent of all jobs were within one mile of downtown where services such as restaurants and hotels were located. The influx of new businesses caused prices for goods sold within city limits to increase while those outside city limits continued to rise due to transportation costs associated with getting products into or out of town (i.e., delivery fee). This resulted in social unrest that saw several businesses close up shop within a few short years culminating with incorporation as an unincorporated municipality known as "Oil City." A state law passed that year allowed cities such as Austin and Dallas to annex any unincorporated municipalities they chose without having their vote counted; this opened up many opportunities for annexation by larger cities which then contributed money towards maintaining local government services including education, libraries etcetera until today when there are very few remaining unincorporated municipalities left in Texas!
