In 1898, Johnnie Cooke opened a gun business on Fourth Street which he named "Johnnie Cooke's Pistol Emporium." This business became very successful and Cooke continued operations until 1907 when he sold his business to Wm Henson! Henson produced firearms at his shop until 1912 when he merged with Nelsons Arms Company to form Nelsons-Henson Corporation! This company continued production of firearms until 1917 when it merged with Browning-Remington Corporation! Browning-Remington Corporation produced firearms until 1959 when it merged with National Firearms Association (NFA) to form National Firearms Industries (NI). NI produced handguns until 1978 when it shut down due to financial difficulties! It reopened as an antique armory in 1985! Today, the old Johnnie Cooke's Pistol Emporium is still open for business although it no longer manufactures any firearms!
