Kingsville is a small town in Texas, located about 25 miles northeast of Austin. The population was 12,000 at the 2000 census. It began as a settlement on the banks of the San Antonio River in 1871, and became an agricultural center during the early years of its existence. Ammunition production began in Kingsville in 1912, and has continued to be a significant part of its economy ever since. The town has three factories that make all types of ammunition: Winchester Ammunition Company (founded 1911), Browning Arms Company (founded 1902), and Remington Arms Company (founded 1890). These companies have left a lasting legacy on Kingsville with their products that continue to be popular today. The original Winchester Ammunition Factory was built on what is now FM 2972 Road near Kingsville High School. This factory manufactured various types of ammunition including shotgun shells and rifle rounds for use by farmers and ranchers across Texas. In 1951, Winchester sold its interest in this factory to Browning Arms Company who renamed it the Browning Arsenal Factory. At this point,Browning started producing both shotgun shells and rifle rounds for sale throughout Texas under several different brand names including Bolton Rifle Rounds (1957-1971), Maverick Shotgun Shells (1968-1978), American Eagle Shotgun Rifles(1979-1981), Remington 870 Shotgun Rifles(1982-1984) - all made in their original facility north of Kingville. From here, they also produced high velocity hunting rounds such as the XP bullet which could travel up to 1,000 yards per second before detonating within 10 feet of its target! In 2002, Remington abandoned their operations in Kingsville due to financial difficulties; however, they continued manufacturing high Velocity Hunting Rounds there until 2007 when they closed down completely citing market trends that were unfavorable towards hunting ammo. In 2008 though, Remington reopened their old plant south of Kingsville under new management who decided to revive Ammo Manufacturing There again! To date this remains one of only two Ammo factories remaining open statewide that still produces hunter grade ammunition!
