Killeen, Texas is a small town located in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. The population was 5,947 at the 2010 census. Killeen is home to two colleges—Texas A&M University and Lamar University—and one shopping mall, the Killeen Mall. It is also the hometown of Clint Eastwood and many other celebrities. The town was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1881 as a cattle ranching community. In 1907, it became a ghost town when all its residents deserted for their homes in neighboring San Antonio because of an economic downturn in Mexico City. However, by 1925, Killeen had regained some of its former business and population levels thanks to new investment from local businessmen including Rufus Earle Hunt Sr., who donated $10,000 to help build a school and clinic in nearby Plano. The Hunt family ran the town until 1978 when it passed into public ownership through an agreement between then-Mayor Donny Hathaway and current Mayor Greg Abbott. In recent years, Killeen has seen several changes that have boosted its economy: 1) The opening of the new KilleEN mall in 2006; 2) The growth of FM 529 (a high school football stadium), which has led to more job opportunities for locals; 3) An increase in tourism due to both its natural attractions such as Mount Kilimanjaro National Park and its history as the setting for westerns like "The Wild Bunch" (1957); 4) An influx of refugees from Syria during President Bashar al-Assad's crackdown on dissidents there starting in 2013; 5) And finally, 5%) The recent arrival of jobs related to shale gas development—-leading to increased sales at local businesses such as hardware stores—-that have helped drive up prices within the town limits

Killeen, Texas is a small town located in the Midland-Odessa area of Texas. The population was 1,851 at the 2000 census. Killeen is associated with the early history of Midland and Odessa. The first European to sight what is now Killeen was Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto in 1541 who named it La Isla de la Esperanza (Island of Hope). It wasn't until 1836 that Anglo-Americans discovered what would become Killeen when they met Mexican cattle herders on their way from Austin to Corpus Christi. They called the place "Higgins" after General James Hogg, commander of U.S War Department forces sent to suppress Mexican landholders in Coahuila and Nuevo León during the Santa Fé War (1835-1846). The town's name came about because prospectors found oil wells there in 1859 while exploring for new sources of petroleum. The first store opened its doors in 1860, and by 1865 there were three stores and 12 businesses operating in Kleineengelocation - all within one block of each other at present day First National Bank Building on Main Street. A post office was established at Killeen on March 6, 1861, and continued operations until it closed on December 9, 1971; however, mail continued to be delivered into Kleineengelocation through the post office's switchboard until 1975. George Waggoner started driving a stagecoach stop between Big Spring and Kleineengelocation for passengers along Main Street between 1872 and 1875 before he built his own general store two blocks west of First National Bank building in 1876 which became known as Waggoner's Grocery Store & Bakery which still stands today across from Plaza Shopping Center off I-10 southbound just past Drew University Drive - making it one of only a few remaining buildings from this period still standing in Killeen today! In 1886 Waggoner donated land north of First National Bank building where Plaza Shopping Center now stands for use as an open air movie theater - later renamed "The Movie Theatre". This theater played host to many major Hollywood productions such as Gone With The Wind (1939), All That Jazz (1945), The Sound Of Silence (1952), etc., before finally closing its doors permanently due to budget constraints in 1957. In 1907 Johnnie Ray built his home near corner US 90/1000 east & main Street which remains extant today as Johnny Ray's Restaurant located inside plaza shopping center! In 1927 Roy Rogers bought property adjoining Johnny Ray's Restaurant site & began construction on his famous Roy Rogers Ranch giving rise to nearby ranches including Cowboy Bebop(1983) & Little Shop Of Horrors(1986)! Many restaurants have since been constructed around this particular corner but none remain extant today quite like Roy Rogers' original ranch house! Many events occurred during these years leading up to World War II that will forever be remembered by those living within or visiting Killeen including: On November 8th 1940 local citizens erected a large Confederate Memorial Flagpole 5 blocks east side Main Street opposite old US 90/1000 east for WWII Veterans Day event; On February 17th 1941 President Franklin D Roosevelt visited Kleineengelocation during his State visit having previously given speeches at Big Spring High SchoolRanch House; On May 10th 1942 Japanese Americans residing within Kleineengelocation were interned pursuant to Executive Order 9066; Lastly on July 29th 1945 German American refugees residing within Kleineengelocation were also interned pursuant to Executive Order 6102
Killeen is a city in McAllen County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the El Paso–New Mexico Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now Killeen was settled by pioneers in 1859 when David Hogg and others founded Kleberg Ranch. In 1871, John Addison Pritchett purchased the land from David Hogg and developed it into what is today Killeen. A post office was established at Killeen in 1877, and remained in operation until 1959. In 1923, the Texas School Book Depository Building (now a museum) was built on Main Street in Killeen. It served as the town's library for many years before being closed due to budget cuts in 1997. A fire destroyed most of Kleberg Ranch on December 31, 1938; however, David Hogg's youngest son later donated portions of his father's holdings to help rebuild Kleberg Ranch and continued to operate it as a ranch until his death in 1984. In 1951 an airportWas opened at Kleberg Airport which became operational May 1st following purchase by IHOP restaurant chain - this airport has since been sold and renamed Mid-town Airport . In 1992 Mid-town Airport re-opened after being closed for over 10 years due to poor maintenance by then owner txdotcom Incorporated - this airport still remains open
