In the early 2000s, Killeen was home to one of the first laser sights in Texas. The site for this technology demonstration was a small complex on the city's south side. The Laser Sight Technologies Company (LSTC) demonstration took place in December 2000 and involved a laser sight that used an ultraviolet light source to emit targets at distances up to 500 yards. This prototype LSTC device was designed by engineers from the NanoRacks company, which also manufactured software and provided support services for LSTC's demonstrations. Laser Sight Technologies Company president Harlan Ellison said at the time that "This is going to change warfare." At long range, lasers could be used as precision killing tools instead of destructive munitions such as artillery shells or grenades. Ellison predicted that Laser Sight Technologies' invention would soon become standard equipment on American battlefields across multiple service branches. In February 2001, LSTC entered into a partnership with Raytheon Co., Ltd., to create a laser sight based on their existing Optica system. This new product became known as the Patriot Missile Laser System and was initially deployed aboard United States Navy ships during Operation Neptune Spear in March 2001. The Patriot Missile Laser System proved itself capable of hitting target aircraft at ranges up to 1,000 miles and helped make naval operations more efficient while providing vital warning information to commanders aboard ship about approaching enemy combatants far out seaward. - In 2002, LSTC merged with another manufacturer, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC), creating what is today known as Renesas Electronics Corporation (REL). Killeen, Texas is a small town located in east-central Texas. The population was 8,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The Killeen community was founded by John Wesley Killeen in 1876. He came to the area from Illinois and started a farm. In 1907, he donated land for the town square and built the first school in Killeen. The original building still stands today and is used as the library. Killeen has been home to several famous people, including author James Baldwin, musician Lonnie Johnson, and businesswoman Betty Ford. Today, Killeen is known for its shopping center which includes several large retailers such as Sears, JCPenny's and Macy's. The town also has a variety of restaurants and cafes that offer both local and national cuisine

These design deficiencies led to further development over time until they became standard on high-end riflescopes. In 1995 Baldwin purchased Lauchlin & Soper’s patents from Lauchlin & Soper In late 1996 Rheinmetall AG announced it had licensed all eight patents held by Lauchlin & SOPER to Rheinmetall AG under license agreement for future invention and marketing rights . By 1997 both companies had moved onto other interests however some key patents remain with Baldwin/Rheinmetall including: US Patent 6,898,027; WO 95/10363; US Patent 7030106 A1; EP 927 3953A2)

Early history [ edit ] The discovery of oil in what would become Killeen began with exploration efforts by several companies during the 1870s. The first recorded mention of an area known today as Killeen was made on September 25, 1877 when JB Caldwell wrote about "a small town situated near San Angelo on Gulcan creek."[2][3] By 1880, there were five oil wells drilled near present day Killeen.[4] A few years later, George Waddell described settlements around Goliad Creek and San Antonio Creek before reporting back to McClure Brothers that he had found "a very rich field".[5] This report encouraged other operators to search for new sources of revenue in what would eventually become known as Anglo- Texan Oil Fields[6]. On July 8, 1883,[7] Humble Oil Company leased land southwest corner lot No 4 on Main Street from John Tatum for $1 per acre ($10 per thousand acres).[8][9][10] That same year saw another major development when James Mclntyre leased land northeast corner lot No 1 on Main Street from Ector Cooke for $500 per acre (£25 per thousand acres). With this purchase came rights over natural gas deposits under limestone beds along McGee's creek bed – a keystone mineral discovery that would set off an era of petroleum production in Central Texas.[11] By 1886, there were ten rigs working around Goliad Creek while two hundred men worked cleaning up spills from nearby Well No 6; these operations helped stimulate economic growth throughout much rural Montgomery County where drilling continued until 1915 due primarily to higher prices offered for Barnett shale resources than elsewhere in North America at that time.[12][13]:364–365 In 1888 John Fenton established his property southeast corner lot No 7 on Haskell Boulevard just north of modern day Killeen proper following interests expressed by local prospector Owen Silliman who stated he could find 800 barrels (27 gallons) or more daily worth crude oil lying beneath Fillmore Road between Springdale and Dallas Counties – improving prospects given earlier claims dating back to 1856 which had failed due insufficient proof or evidence.[14]:358 On October 11 […] Mr Fenton submitted plans for building a large blockhouse […] He named it Fort Worth Post Office Building after himself but no post office ever opened here because mail got lost downgradient through McFarlane Valley into Mexico City where most mail went then eastward across Ixocotlan River into Oaxaca City before finally reaching Austin via Mexican Rail Station at Laredo Junction
Killeen was founded in 1876 as a cattle town and then grew to become a manufacturing center for cotton, shoes, furniture, and other goods.
