It had been stored away in a locked cabinet for years! He decided to take it home and start learning about its history. The knife was originally made by Native Americans in the area that today is Kilgore. It was used for hunting and cutting meat from animals. The knife's design was very similar to those used by European settlers during the 1800s. After learning about the knife's history, Jimmie started using it to cook dinner for his family. His wife loved how delicious their meals tasted with this old-fashioned knife! People in Kilgore started calling him "Jimmie" because of how well he could cook with a traditional sword-and-a-shield kitchenknife!

Kilgore is a small town in Texas located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Kilgore was founded by pioneers who came to the region in 1836 and named it for their friend, General James Kilgore, who served as Governor of Kansas from 1859 to 1861 and then as Secretary of War from 1865 to 1867. The first post office in Kilgore was established in 1837, but no settlers arrived until 1840 when John Fenton built a cabin on what is now Main Street. A store and hotel were established soon after and by 1850, over 100 people had settled hereabouts. In 1851, James Waddell erected a log cabin on what is now Elm Street which became the nucleus of Kilgore’s earliest business establishment; he operated a grocery store with his son-in-law John Hildebrandt until 1862 when he moved his business to new quarters at 608 Elm Street which became homeport for many years of the local wharfage company which later became known as Trinity Wharfage Company Ltd., owner/operator since 1909. From this point forward, Kilgore would be firmly associated with its present commercial structure – an imposing crescent-shaped building across Elm Street from today’s First Baptist Church – through successive ownership changes (eclipsing even that earlier mercantile center) including those of Elisha Beattie (1892), Lillie Austin (1911), Will Rogers (1913), Hilda Clements Richards (1927) until finally becoming fully incorporated as a municipality withinDallas County on January 1st 1959 under charter number 4008 S/C 5792/1960 with Mayor Jock Mahoney serving as its first officer followed by annexation by Fort Worth on November 7th 1964 In spite of being one tiny community among many throughout much of Dallas County during those early decades there emerged gradually over time an identity about "Kilgore" distinctively itself both politically and socially based not simply because its residents were overwhelmingly Anglo Methodists but also because they city folk tended increasingly to prize self-sufficiency above all other considerations while Fort Worth preoccupied themselves more centrally with issues such as municipal corruption or expanding cotton production or international relations some 60 miles distant

The Kilgore Massacre took place in 1881, when a group of citizens from Kilgore, Texas, were killed by Apache warriors.
