During World War II, kilgarrested Japanese soldiers were held at Kilgarry Park before being released into nearby Fort Worth Federal Prison where they experienced harsh conditions until their release in 1945. After their release from prison, many Japanese residents moved into what is now downtown Kilgarry due to its availability of land and resources. After World War II ended, kilgarrested Japanese immigrants continued to live at various locations within or adjacent to downtown Kilgarry until they were all relocated outside the city limits following Decree No 2280 issued by Ulysses S Grant on March 15, 1948 reflecting Washington D C's policy favoring assimilation over segregationof certain groups within metropolitan areas along racial lines within specific jurisdictions throughout the United States
The town of Kilgore, Texas was founded in 1867 by Andrew Carnegie and others. The town became a railroad center, with the first train arriving in Kilgore on October 7, 1868. The town prospered as a manufacturing center for cloth, cigars, boots and saddles, and other goods exported to Mexico. However, the Panic of 1893 destroyed much of the local textile industry and the town lost significant economic stability. In 1907, Kilgore was renamed Fort Worth after General John Fetterman who had helped lead Texas into statehood.
