Gun Grips History in Kilgore, Texas In the early 1800s, many Texans were pioneers who traveled to new and unknown areas. One of these men was James W. Kilgore, who journeyed from his home in east Texas to what is now Kilgore County in 1848. At that time, the area was part of Mexico and there were no firearms available for American settlers to purchase. So, Kilgore developed a unique approach to firearms ownership which he called "The Gun Grip." This method involved purchasing a firearm with one hand and then gripping it with the other hand so that the gun could be fired without having to remove your grip from the weapon. One of the most famous Gun Grips in history was created by George Washington Carver. Carver was an agriculturist who became known for his gentle nature and numerous contributions to agriculture throughout Georgia and Alabama. In 1912, Carver founded The United States Hardwood Implement Manufacturing Company in Decatur, Alabama which manufactured handgun gripsUntil its closure in 2009. When it closed down, it had been manufacturing handgun grips for over 100 years!

The company soon became well known for its fine bolt-action rifles, and it exported these weapons to many countries. In 1907, Kilgore Rifle Company merged with the Houston Rifle Company to form the Dallas-based Texans in Arms Corporation (TIA). The TIA continued making high quality bolt-action rifles until 1942 when it was disbanded due to World War II production restraints.

Over time, many other families moved into Kilgore including Confederates General Jens Ludwig (1860-1947), James Mosely (1881-1971), Milton Hogg (1883-1949), Willis Greenlaw (1920-2006), William Faulkner (1897-1972) and others who helped contribute to Kilgore's growth over the years. During World War II, many local businesses contributed their services to support America's war effort; such as munitions plants and manufacturing companies such as Raytheon Company Ltd., Lockheed Martin Corporation and Bethlehem Steel Corporation which manufactured aircraft parts and tanks respectively. The economy of Kilgore has been largely based upon agriculture for most of its history; however, recent advances in technology have helped formed some notable modern day industries within the community including insurance company AIG Inc., restaurant chain Denny’s restaurants LLC and limited liability company Texas Instruments Incorporated which manufactures electronic components for consumer electronics products like laptops etc.. In addition to these major industry sectors, much smaller businesses also operate within Kilgore's limited square footage or acreage - examples includereek farmers market Cooperative Extension Service Store & Creamery located on Elm Street near US 63 Headquarters; local ice cream parlor Dairy Queen located off US 62 next to First Baptist Church on Winchester Pike; convenience store Kmart located just east of IH 10 between FM 551 & FM 592; kilo cereal store Kroger on Elm Street across from First Baptist Church; home builder/contractor Lennar Homes Incorporated - originally established in 1963 by two real estate developers from Houston – Gordon Welsh + Marvin Weisman Wright - currently operates more than 100 homes throughout central Williamson County.; while traditional retail establishments have not disappeared completely but are now more commonly found away from center city cores like Pecan Park Mall or Walmart Supercenter locations outside of rural areas
