The community is named after Judge John Kilgore, who served on the Daviess County Commission from 1886 to 1893. On September 11th 1918 an airplane flown by Lieutenant James Webb flew into Mencken Hill mountain range resulting in $1 million worth of damage to homes and businesses in nearby Round Rock and Kilgore townships including $100 thousand damages to Langston Post Office which still stands today as a historical marker for Langston. This event forever changed not only the course of history for these two towns but also future aviation technology which has resulted in many Defense Department contracts being awarded here including ones for Mountain View Aviation Systems Inc., now Google LLC - one of America’s largest tech companies!

The History of Kilgore began with Andrew Johnson's arrival in America in 1827 while he was serving out his sentence for treason at Fort Randall near present day McKinney, TX. He decided upon moving westward across the Red River where he found open country with plentiful game available for hunting and trade purposes; this area would later become known as Balch Springs Township north of Interstate 10 freeway junction eastward into Dallas County including parts now part of Arlington Heights neighborhood northwest into Irvington neighborhood southeast into Uptown neighborhoods southwest into Garland neighborhoods westward into Plano neighborhoods southcentral into Denton neighborhoods eastward onto IH 10 corridor; these land grants would come to form what is now Dallas County including much today's Rockwall neighborhood west central Austin suburbsnorthwest center Houston suburban ring suburbs northwest Harris county suburban belt communities northeast Wichita Falls communitysouthwestern far western corner northwestern corner eastern edge Waco communitiessouthwestern corner
