In 1876, a man named James Kilgore founded the town of Kilgore in present-day Texas. Kilgore was an early pioneer community and was home to one of the first schools in the area. By 1880, Kilgore had a population of around 100 people. In that year, Kilgore partnered with other towns in west Texas to form the Wichita County Territory. The territory covered most of what is now Kaufman County and parts of Tarrant County today. Kilgore continued to grow and by 1892 had a population of 2,500 people. In 1893, Killeen became the new townsite for Kilgore and it would remain so until 1911 when Lubbock took over as the new townsite. By 1912, Lubbock had a population of 10,000 people and it would remain so until mammalian life began to impact the environment which caused Lubbock’s status as a town to be challenged in the late 1920s. During World War II, kilogram (a unit used throughout Europe) testing was conducted at nearby Nellis Air Force Base with use of binoculars by American forces for targeting purposes during aerial bombings raids on Japan. After 1945, binoculars were gradually replaced by radar technology in warfare due to their specificity compared to automatic weapons fire which made them less effective as long range eyesores against targets at night or under adverse conditions such as rain or snow . Binoculars however still play an important role in surveying land and waters from shipboard or ashore using spotting scopes while hunting game at night or when boat travel through rough waters

Kilgore experienced some growth during World War II; it became one of five towns in Texas that were designated "military training areas." Aspects of local culture continue to be popular tourist attractions today: such as quinceañeras ( Hispanic New Year's celebrations), rodeo events, and traditional dances like the waltz are popular among tourists and locals alike.
