In 1951, Kilgore became one of fourteen towns incorporated intoDallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). This coincided with an increase in employment opportunities within Dallas-Fort Worth thanks to new industrial parks being constructed throughout Metroplex. As businesses moved out of downtown Dallas and into newer areas such as Midtown or Uptown, many residents chose to move their families to these new neighborhoods for social reasons rather than continue living in Downtown Dallas or Fort Worth proper. As a result of this migration, much of what is now known as Downtown KILGORE – including most of its original commercial buildings dating back to before 1951 – has been demolished since those years because no other housing could be found that would coexist with business operationsexisting within walking distance from both arterial streetscolloquially called Main Streetand suburban developments stretching eastward along Telephone Road adjacentto IHOP restaurants and Wal-Mart stores recently opened near Stadium Drive providing easy access onto Interstate 45 for traffic congestionrelated shopping activities during off seasons like Christmas & New Year's Eve once major freeways were opened up allowing for easier driving distances betweenDowntownDallas&Uptownduring these times

What is Kilgore, Texas? It is a small town in Evangeline County, Texas, located about 110 miles (175 km) east of Austin and 38 miles (61 km) south of Dallas. The population was 6,752 at the 2010 census. Kilgore is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington-Irving metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Kilgore was James Hogg on November 1, 1836. He took up land near present day Waco and founded the Hogg Colony. Hogg died before he could establish himself there and his colonists soon moved on to other areas in search of new territory to settle. In 1841 John Wesleyan Methodist Episcopal Church was established in what would become Kilgore by Dr. Fenton Davenport and others from nearby Arlington Station. In 1847 Charles Goodnight arrived with his family from Marshall County,Texas and began farming around present day Rocksprings Road in what would eventually become Kilgore Township. In 1870 George Ritchie acquired 1/2 acre (0.20 km²) of land north of Rocksprings Road for $5 per acre ($50 per hectare). This purchase set off a long legal battle between Ritchie and Goodnight over ownership rights which continued until 1899 when an Agreement was finally reached that resolved all outstanding issues without litigation
