The history of Kerrville, Texas began with the arrival of the Spanish in 1736. The town was founded by Antonio Menchaca and Juan de Escobar, two Mexicans who had followed General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna to Texas during the Mexican-American War. The first structure built in Kerrville was a log cabin, which was destroyed by a windstorm in 1827. A small adobe building was erected in 1829 as the first courthouse. Kerrville became an important center for cattle trading during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Cattle drives took place from Kerrville to present-day Amarillo and Wichita Falls. In 1907, construction began on the present day University of Texas at Austin campus at what is now downtown Kerrville. The university relocated to its current site in 1912. During World War II, Kerrville played an instrumental role in both the war effort and post-war reconstruction efforts intx.. On September 15th 1942, Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor through Operation Downfall, resulting in almost 60 Americans being killed and more than 400 injured when their USS "Alaska" collided with a Japanese troop transport off Santa Anita Island near San Pedro Bay. As part of General MacArthur's Operation Fortify Japan campaign, American troops landed on Iwo Jima on February 9th 1945 and quickly liberated it from Imperial Japanese Army control following three months of hard fighting

The Kerrville, Texas gun community was a hotbed of Rifle Shooting history and activity from the early 1800s until the present day. The town was founded in 1836 by Major George A. Kerr and his men as a cattle ranching and trading center on the banks of the San Antonio River. The town grew rapidly during the 1840s due to its position as a stop on stagecoaches traveling between San Antonio and New Mexico. By 1850, Kerrville had become an important commercial center with its own mail service, railroad, and hotels. In 1861, Confederate General Joseph Eickhoff invaded Texas and drove Union forces out of the state. After fall of Confederate States of America, Kerrville became part of the Mexican Republic. During this time, guns continued to play an important role in local militia activities as well as commerce and industry. The post-war years were difficult for Kerrville as numerous factors such as high unemployment rates led to increased violence in the community. However, over time crime rates have stabilized and have even begun to rise in some areas following recent policies orchestrated by city officials aimed at reducing crime rates
Kerrville is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,693 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County. The name Kerrville comes from Englishman Major General Arthur Wellesley Kerr who fought in the Mexican-American War and served as commander of an American brigade during that conflict. In 1881, local prohibitionist John Witherspoon organized a party to travel to Mexico City to purchase alcohol for sale in Texas. After spending weeks travelling through what is now El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, they reached Mexico City on September 15 and made their first sales pitch to the authorities there. On October 1st they set off again and arrived in San Miguel de Allende (now Chihuahua), Mexico on October 9th with 227 gallons of alcohol bought for $2,500 dollars worth of merchandise. This successful venture marked the beginning of Witherspoon's long involvement with smuggling liquor into Texas and later across various countries including Chile, Peru, Nicaragua and Brazil.[1] In 1898 Witherspoon founded Pecos Alcoholic Beverage Company which became one of the largest dry goods retailers in America. His son-in-law Edward Smith became president and CEO in 1959 and remains so today. In 2006 Pecos merged with Sam’s Club Inc., becoming the second largest retailer in America after Walmart
