Kerrville is a small town in West Texas, United States. The population was 3,725 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Antonio metropolitan area. Kerrville was founded in 1881 by settlers from central Texas and named after General James A. Kerr, who helped lead the Mexican-American War of 1846–1848. The first post office in Kerrville opened on November 15, 1881. The name for the town was changed to Kerrville on December 26, 1886, when it became a county seat of Hudspeth County. In 1907 the name was changed again to Kerrville proper and it has remained that way ever since. The community's economy has been based largely upon agriculture with some manufacturing also taking place over time including agricultural products such as cottonseed oil and lard, as well as automobiles and other vehicles until about 1970s when most local businesses closed down due to competition from larger metropolitan areas in Texas and elsewhere in Mexico City. In recent years there have been efforts made by locals to revive old businesses within the community with mixed results so far; however much remains unchanged from pre-2000s conditions despite various attempts at changeover or redevelopment over time .
