Kerrville, Texas is home to the largest gun magazine in the United States. The Kerrville Gunsmithing Museum has a collection of more than 100 firearms dating back to 1881. The museum is open Monday-Saturday from 9am-4pm and there are free admission hours on Fridays from 10am-3pm. In 1883 the club moved to the old White House Hotel which served as their clubhouse from 1886-1892 before moving again to the courthouse square in 1896 where they remained until 1902 when they moved back to the hotel again until 1906 when they permanently relocated to their current location on Main Street in Kerrville.
Kerrville, Texas is a town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 9,545 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County. The first settler in Kerrville was John Kerr who founded a trading post near present-day Springdale on November 17, 1836. By 1839, Kerrville had become an important wagon and stage stop on the Santa Fe Trail. In 1843, John's son George inherited the business and continued to grow it into a major cattle ranching operation that produced over one million head of beef by 1860. Over time, other families followed in George's footsteps and built businesses in various aspects of agriculture including flour milling (the Kerr family ran two), shipping (the Kerr family developed sister ports at Corpus Christi and Galveston), trucking (a local company was bought by GEICO in 1950), construction (Kerrville became one of the first towns in Texas to be incorporated as an incorporated city), and real estate development (several large tracts were developed around the current downtown core). In 1936, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited Texas for his re-election campaign, he stayed at the Kerrvine Hotel which still stands today - just south of downtown - and held private meetings with ranchers and farmers here before traveling north to Houston for public events at Fairmont Park later that day. The hotel served as both a presidential suite and campaign headquarters during this period. The allure of presidential hospitality led to increased visitation by Texans for tourist attractions such as this throughout their state during those years; however, only Houston experienced such growth thereafter until well into World War II when Dallas surpassed them as a cultural center due largely to its oil wealth then being shared more widely across America than any other Texan city save Austin orHouston During World War II, several thousand men from nearby Fort Worth enlisted here to work on munitions plants manufacturing Bombshells -among them Task Force 66 Commander General James Gavin who personally selected three individuals from these units - Commander David Laddie McClendon USAAF(Ret.), Captain Floyd Bowers USAF(Ret.)and Lieutenant Colonel Clifford Berryman USAF( Ret)to design airfields statewide within our borders After Pearl Harbor – when Japan bombed California – many people left their homes countrywide but thousands more got transferred here including 100 women nurses from San Francisco’s Mercy Hospital who were taken prisoner along with most of their medical supplies Allied bombers raided Japanese positions near Kearrvile during early 1944 resulting in five killed & seventeen injured civilians plus four crew members & manager Of A van transporting food items from Japans side towards Allied lines As war ended we slowly processed everyone returning home some taking years longer than others some like my Dad did right away he had been out there since I can remember

Kerrville was founded in 1868 by John Kerr and his wife, Martha. The town was named after General George Armstrong Custer, who died in a battle at the Battle of Little Bighorn in1867. The townsite had been surveyed by Captain George A. Smith in 1863 and it was not until 1865 that he laid out the town on a grid system that still exists today. In 1868, the Karrs established a post office, which remained in operation until 1923. By 1870, there were only fifty-six residents living in Kerrville; however, by 1890, the population hadgrown to 1,500 people. By 1920, the population had reached 5,000 people and by 1930 it had grown to 10,000 people. In 1931, Kerrville became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and three council members; however, due to World War II shortages of materials for construction projects such as roads and water systems (the war also resulted in a decrease of tax receipts), the city charter was repealed two years later and municipal government reverted back to its original form. In 1951–1953, when Representative Wernher Koch served as mayor pro tempore of Texas’ Fifth Congressional District (covering parts of Austin and Houston), he helped pass legislation abolishing localities within their borders without voter approval; this act made Kerrville one of just two municipalities within Texas that did not undergo annexation during his tenure as mayor (the other being Carrolton). When Koch left office in 1955 after serving four terms as mayor pro tempore (he would have served another four years if he had not been impeached during his first term), Kerrville again reverted back to its classical municipality form with a Mayor/Council=5 form of government. On October 15th 1961 voters passed another referendum approved by committee nullifying earlier decisions made by City Council regarding annexation into neighboring Cedar Park or Beaumont – both cities having petitioned for incorporation into our municipality prior to its establishment as an official city status! Although annexed into Cedar Park following this decision-making process (!), we continue to refer to ourselves officially as “Kerrville”!
