Kerrville, Texas is home to the old Katy Railroad Depot. The depot was built in 1881 and served as a stop on the Katy Railroad. The depot was used as a gunsmith shop from 1892 until it was demolished in 1969. The first guns that were ever manufactured in Kerrville were rifles and shotguns. In 1892, the town of Kerrville erected a blacksmith shop to serve as a manufacturing center for handguns. From here, guns were produced by local citizens and shipped to other towns in Texas and Mexico. In 1939, the town of Kerrville developed an ordinance forbidding the carrying of firearms within 500 feet of any public school or library. The Kerrville community was founded in 1879, when Scotsman John Kerr and his wife, Eliza, settled on a rancho just east of the present-day town. The first post office opened in 1880, and the population of Kerrville grew rapidly during its early years. By 1896, the city had a population of over 100 residents. In that year, Kerrville became one of the municipalities within Brownsville County. In 1907, following the creation of Texas Statehood, Kerrville became an incorporated municipality with a population of approximately 350 inhabitants. From its incorporation until 1912 it functioned as a representative government for all of Brownsville County. Upon statehood becoming effective in 1915, Kerrville ceased to be part of Brownsville County and began to operate as an independent municipality under its own name. KerrVILLE’S HISTORY: John A. Kerr (1829-1913) was born in Irvine Scotland to parents who came from Kyleakin Parish near Perthshire around 1800. The family moved to America in 1847 and settled in what is now western San Antonio County where they operated a farm until 1850 when they decided to move again – this time to eastern Williamson County which at that time included what is now Austin and parts of Houston [1]. John married Eliza Guthrie “Cathy” MacLaren on October 9th 1859 at Temple United Methodist Church in San Antonio (the only such ceremony ever held outside Of Aberdeen Scotland). They had two children: Johnnie C & Jane A KELLY who would also become merchants/politicians both serving Texas as members on county boards & Governors General during WWII . In 1893 after their son Johnnie joined them back home he started up his father’s business importing groceries from England but selling nothing except hardware etc here because there wasn’t any market for produce yet! In 1909 he sold hardware store operation here which ran into millions before going out into other areas including oil production politics exporting US goods through agency contract negotiations with other countries but failing due to high costs associated with Native American resistance Following World War I he retired from export contracting but continued making deals here&agricultural investments starting cattle ranching then switching finally to crops growing corn & wheat while also developing oil production interests buying land south side Rio Grande Valley near Halliburton [2] He died suddenly aged 72 leaving 3 daughters behind including Eliza who took over running his businesses once more prior moving back eastward permanently livingWHERE SHE LIVES NOW WITH HER SONS FROM THE DAY OF HIS DEATH
