When the city of Kerrville was founded in 1887, many people either worked on orowned farms. The population grew rapidly, and soon there were too few jobs for everyone. So, some men decided to create their own businesses by manufacturing firearms and selling them to the townspeople. This was called "the gun industry." The first firearms company in Kerrville was started by George W. Brownell and his son-in-law John Gorman. They made pistols and rifles out of wood and metal until they moved to a larger facility in 1902. From here, they started making handguns as well as shotguns, rifles, ammunition, and other accessories. In 1935, the Brownells merged with another firearms company named Hennig & Co., which became Bear Arms Incorporated. This merger allowed Bear Arms to produce rifles that could fire rounds up to .45 caliber (12 gauge). In 1953, Bear Arms went public and changed its name to Colt Firearms Corporation. Colt continued producing handguns until 1998 when it merged with United Sportsman's Association (USA) to form American Outdoor Brands (AOBA).

Kerrville is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington-Eagle Pass Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by Rangers John W. Kerr and James H. McCullough in 1879 as a cattle ranching community on the banks of the Trinity River. The first post office was established in 1880, and by 1885 it had grown to include a store, several homes, and two churches. In 1886, Kerrville became home to its first school; that same year it also saw its first church services. By 1889, the town boasted six businesses and twelve residents. In 1896–97, Kerrville saw its biggest growth period as it annexed neighboring unincorporated communities of Arlington (now Arlington Heights) and Bowie (now Bowie Ranch). That same decade also saw Kerrville become one of Tarrant County's leading grain elevators with three plants housing more than twenty thousand sacks of flour per day. In 1930–31, during the Great Depression, Kerrville experienced its most significant economic downturn when many farmers lost their jobs due to decreased prices for goods exported from Texas due to World War II sanctions imposed by America's enemies Germany and Japan. As a result of this recession, many people left or were forced out of their homes in what is now known as "theGreatDepression Migration". During World War II there were numerous military installations located in and around Kerrville including: Fort Bliss (later renamed Fort Worth Army Air Base), Brushy Creek Naval Air Station (), Camp Evans (), White Sands Missile Range (), Poston airfield (). Some 5% of all manufactured goods produced in Tarrant County were produced at these locations during World War II. After the war ended there continued to be military installations located within or near Kerrville such as: Davis-Monthan AFB () which housed Operation Overlord's Sixth Fleet Headquarters (); White Sands Missile Range () which housed Republic Scientific Laboratories (); Camp Evans () which served as an army reserve camp untilactivated in 1957; Brushy Creek Naval Air Station () which hosted various naval operations between 1945 and 1946;and Poston airfield (). Today only Davis-Monthan AFB remains active with military activity while White Sands Missile Range has been closed indefinitely since 1984 due to environmental concerns about nuclear testing being conducted there

In 1916, the United States Postal Service moved to Kerrville from San Antonio after serving as that city's mail carrier since 1869. It remained an important community until it closed its doors in 1981 due to budget cuts.
