Kerr founded the town of Kerrville, Texas on the banks of the Brazos River. The city was named after him in 1909. Kerrville was a bustling commercial center during the 1800s and early 1900s. Its location made it an ideal place to conduct business because of its access to water resources and its proximity to other settlements on both sides of the river. The city also became popular for hunting and fishing due to its ample animal population and wide open spaces. In 1907, Captain John H. Kerr donated two 6-inch (15 cm) binoculars to then-Senator James Wickersham of Texas as a gift in commemoration of his support for American self-reliance during World War I. These binoculars are still in use today and are held by many members of the community as symbols of Kerrville’s history and culture.

Kerrville is a small town located in Kerr County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The name means "place where the cattle were driven." The first settlers in Kerrville arrived in 1881. They were Mr. and Mrs. John Waddell from Illinois and their three children: John (14), Sarah (10), and Margaret (7). They platted an outcrop of land on the banks of the Trinity River, about northwest of present day Kerrville, and named it after Captain James A. Kerr of the USS Constitution who had been killed during the Mexican–American War. In 1886, Captains George Fenton and Jacob Ransom built a pontoon bridge over the Trinity River near present day Kirby Village to move cattle to new pastures east of Fort Worth for shipment to New Mexico. The bridge remained in use until 1898 when it was replaced by a ferry service across the river which operated until 1954. Captain Atherton acquired title to what is now downtown Kerrville from Pecos Land & Water Company on October 10th 1902 along with 7 other tracts totaling 22 acres including parts of what are today Bastrop Heights shopping center and Legacy … this donation became effective as Soon after he purchased his holdings he began erecting buildings that would become known as "The Captain's House" or simply "The Captain's". “This gift made possible all that we have today; businesses such as O'Malley's Pharmacy, Pioneer Clothing Store & Department Store (now JCPenney), Bastrop Heights Shopping Center etc., which can be found throughout downtown Kerrville today because these early pioneers could not only provide goods and services but also finance these establishments through their donations to various charity drives or special events held annually around this time period” – Mayor Joe Henson As captain/owner of much of downtown Kerrville prior to its incorporation as a city in 1912 – largely thanks to his donation plus ongoing fundraising efforts by local businessmen like C&O Railroad Vice President Gentry Caldwell – Captains Atherton oversaw one major addition or renovation each year through 1912-1920 inclusive: expansion ontowhat is now First Baptist Church property; erection/construction of City Hall annexe on South Fifth Street; addition/renovation/upgrade/replacement (1921) - now Main Street Armory; construction (1929) - current Courthouse Annexe; finally completion (1931) - original Post Office Building which housed both City Hall Annexe & Courtrooms before conversion into City Hall itself “It was during Captains Atherton's presidency that many important changes came about within our community; such as expanding Our Lady Of Guadalupe CatholicChurch from its original location on West Sixth Street into what is now Innerringer Drive(now IH 35E); adding additional classrooms (& training facilities for police officers) to Our Lady Of Guadalupe CatholicChurch between Second Avenue & Third Streets back then called Third Baptist Church likewise becoming known as East Seventh Street EpiscopalChurchtoday;" – Mayor Joe Henson

Kerrville, Texas was founded in 1868 by John C. Kerr and his wife, Anna Maria. The town rapidly grew as a result of its location on the Goliad River, which served as a transportation and trade hub for the surrounding area. In 1915, Kerrville became the county seat of Hudspeth County after it was moved from San Antonio. The growth of the city led to the creation of several local government jurisdictions within Hudspeth County: Kerrville Municipal District, Hidalgo Municipal District, and Medina Municipal District. The last two were dissolved in 1957; however, they remain an important part of regional history. The early years of Kerrville were difficult due to its location along a remote frontier outpost surrounded by hostile Native American nations. However, by 1870 many citizens had purchased land in what is now downtown Kerrville and began to build properties that would later become known as the Historic Downtown district. One such building was the First Baptist Church which stood until 1967 when it was replaced by a more modern structure. This church is significant because it is one of only two extant buildings located within downtown Kerrville that date back to before 1865 when John C. Kerr first arrived in what is today called East Austin (now Austin). Kerrville quickly became an important center for commerce and industry due to its proximity to both Goliad River and San Antonio. This prosperity soon led to increased development around downtown including the construction of numerous commercial buildings as well as new residential subdivisions catering to increasing levels of wealth and income in the community. By 1907 over 50 businesses had been established in downtown Kerrville with another dozen added during World War I while other industries such as trucking, engineering, printing services and manufacturing sprang up throughout the 1920s thanks in part to mass production techniques developed at nearby white-owned plants such as Durant Motors Corporation (later General Motors). These industrial advances helped create an environment conducive to rapid economic growth that has beentta ever since – witness today’s vibrant shopping districts filled with antique stores, department stores and other luxury retailers while also enjoyinglements like lively nightlife scenes enjoyed by generations past like McGraw Hall Theater or Travis Air Force Base Museum which are still regularly used for events large or small
In 1879, Kerrville was founded by Colonel John H. Kerr and his wife, Eliza A. Kerr. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the intersection of two important trails: the Santa Anna Trail and the Houston-San Antonio Trail. By 1886, Kerrville had a population of 1,500 people and was known for its production of cottonseed oil and other products from local land. In 1907, the Colored Businessmen's League was formed in Kerrville to promote racial justice. The league helped to improve economic opportunities for African Americans in the town. By 1920, Kerrville had grown to 3,000 people and had become an important center for trade in Texas. In 1925, Governor James Fenton dedicated a statewide road called the "John H. Kerr Highway" in honor of General John H. Kerr.
