Keller, Texas is a small town in the panhandle of Texas. It is located on the banks of the Red River, about 25 miles northeast of Amarillo and 100 miles southwest of Dallas. In 1916, the town added its own telephone system which remain operational today thanks to Caller Iver Phone Company Incorporated (CIP). In 1957, outgrowth from oil exploration led to an influx of people and businesses into the community which saw growth in both retail and services sectors including restaurants, hotels/motels, medical care and banking activities such as First National Bank & Trust Co., Farmers State Bank & Trust Company (later renamed Wells Fargo), Southern Pacific Railroad Company (SP) and American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T). Keller, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 1,818 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Midland city Limits Micropolitan Statistical Area. The Keller post office opened on March 1, 1887 and closed on December 31, 1957. The community took its name from George A. Keller who platted it in 1881. The first settlers in Keller were John and Jane Bickley who arrived around 1876. They started a farm and store in what is now the business district of the town today. In 1886, George A. Keller purchased land adjacent to present day Keller from James Hickey for $5 per acre (the equivalent of $ as of 2007). By 1888, Keller had a school and an Episcopal church which served both local residents and travelers passing through on their way to Georgetown or Amarillo back then. In 1907-08 when Wichita Falls was being planned as the new center of commerce for Hudspeth County, two businessmen from that town – Jules Schieffer and Arthur Wesson – offered to buy all of what would become present day Keller for $10 per acre (equivalent to about $140 per acre as of 2007). This offer was accepted by county commissioners but never acted upon because Wichita Falls beat out central Hudspeth County for development status; instead they built their own courthouse there with more expensive materials and less labor than what was needed to build the old post office buildings downtown so that people could still send mail there even if they moved away during those years! When Wichita Falls began booming following World War II due in large part to heavy investment by businesses connected thereto such as American Trucking Company (ATC), General Motors plant downriver near Wichita Falls became available for expansion once again thanks largely to Hickey’s efforts! When ATC president Harry Sinclair met George Aker while he was visiting Wichita Falls he decided that this place should have its own hospital/research center because things were really heating up thereabouts! Accordingly, plans were made for an existing Methodist church west of Main Street which would be dedicated as ATC’s Hospital #1 within months! And so it came about that El Paso Stritch Methodist Church became one of only four hospitals operated by American Medical Groups throughout southern Texas during the era before electronic medical records became prevalent! Keller also got its start with agriculture with some early settlers farming corn, beans,, cotton etc.; however over time other crops like oilseed rape (a typeof soybean) also grew quite successfully here too given adequate rainfall/ irrigation resources nearby especially after statehood created certain jurisdictional rights pertaining thereto under Article 3 heading “Queso Brazos River Valley Lands acquired pursuant to Act No 1002″ filed November 11th 1906!!! However it should be noted that much later when oil production increased significantly along I-35 corridor eastward whence access might reasonably be expected hereinbelow via various transportation channels including those provided thereby via either sidePanhandle State Highway System remnants thereof purportedly remaining extant therein nonetheless notwithstanding any legal challenges adduced thereto notwithstanding!)…..” Most recently according current highway mileage maps developed by TMV Solutions LLP., white Eagle Mine & Ranch LLC has been operating approximately 8 miles south southwest corner ol [now] I- 35 just south ol Red Rock Rd./Highway 17 exit off ramp onto I- 35 proper since February 2014……….
Keller, Texas was founded in 1879 by John Keller and his wife Anna. The town was named after John's older brother, George M. Keller, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and helped found Austin in 1836. The first post office was established in Keller on November 1, 1880. In 1886, the railroad arrived to help spur development in the town. By 1912, the population of Keller had grown to over 2,000 people. The town saw growth as a result of cotton farming and other related businesses that sprung up around it. In 1960, the Texas Education Agency merged with the Houston Community College system to form University of Houston System
