Finally, on May 5th, 1945, a large friendly game of rifle-target shooting was conducted at Mohawk Parknearby after which all weapons were prohibited within 1/2 mile of any school or playground! The name of the foundation came from John's daughter Linda's maiden name - Republic (or Kerr). The KELLER AREA COMMUNITY CENTER opened its doors to children in 1984. Today it serves as a library with more than 6 million items including books, movies and video games. In 2006, Keller organized its first parade which raised over $1,000 for local charities. In 2012-2013, Keller hosted the annual Texas State Fair which drew more than 100 exhibitors from all over Tarrant County
Keller, Texas is a census-designated place in Waller County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,036 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The town was named after Confederate General Pecan Jack Keller and his wife Fannie Keller. The first post office opened in 1872. The name change to Keller in 1907 due to the influence of banker George Keller who donated $5,000 for the town's incorporation. In 1912, local farmers formed a cooperative to improve irrigation systems in nearby Haskell City. In 1951, businesses began moving into the town from Arlington and other surrounding towns that had been destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan ( Typhoon This Year). As more businesses moved into the town, it attracted attention from developers who wanted to create new neighborhoods in which people could live close to each other and work together. Keller has experienced many changes over its history including an influx of Hispanic residents during the late 1990s and 2000s; rapid growth following World War II; initiatives such as Area 4 Junior High School's "No More Tears" campaign that aimed to reduce teenage pregnancy; and recent changes related to annexation by Fort Worth proper which led to some store closures within the community.
