The name Keller comes from the German word "Keller" meaning "pitcher." In 1881, two brothers named George and Louis Keller founded a trading post in what is now known as Keller. The post was near present-day Wichita Falls and served as a stop on the Chisholm Trail. In 1912, George Keller donated land to make into a town square. Today, the square still includes a playground and several businesses including Buttermilk Basketing Company and Red Lobster restaurant. Voters in 2006 approved an $8 million bond referendum for infrastructure projects such as new roads, water systems, schools and fire protection. These projects will help increase tourism within the community by creating more jobs and making it easier for people to get around. One of these new roads will connect Keller with nearby Fort Worth while another will connect it to Dallas/Ft Worth Airport. Keller has been home to several famous residents including comedian Jerry Seinfeld and singer Willie Nelson

Keller, Texas is a small town in theMidland region of Texas. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census. It has a strong Midwestern culture and history. The town is named for Samuel Keller, an early settler who homesteaded here in 1876. In 1907, the town site was chosen as the location for a new oil refinery under construction by Shell Oil Company. The townspeople were not happy about this choice and fought unsuccessfully against the refinery project. In 1951, Keller became home to the United States Air Force's first air-defense radar station when it opened at nearby Mountain Pass Airport. The radar station served as part of what is now known as High Frequency Command and Warning (HFCW) Sector 5 in Lubbock County until its closure in 2006 after being victim of budget cuts. Keller also played a role during World War II when local residents formed an anti-aircraft battery to defend against Japanese bombers that had bombed their homes on occasion during the war. The battery was disbanded after the war but re-formed in 1946 as "The Citizens' Committee Against Air Raids." After years of fundraising and organizing by members of the committee, Keller's mayor donated land to create an air raid shelter in 1955 which served as headquarters for municipal response services during later wars including Operation Desert Storm in 1990 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
